I made up a replacement exhaust port gasket to fit in where the original had gone missing on the old ProMac 10-10s/ It's a fiddly bit, just a rectangle of material only 1 3/8" on the long side, and a large rectangular hole on the inside. A little picture frame, not even any bolt holes the gasket fits in a recess between some raised ribs cast into the cylinder boss. I should have captured a picture, but...that's not me.

I used soft copper sheet, cut out with a sharp chisel, using the vise jaws as a guide. A fine rat tail file provided clean up. I didn't take the air shrouds off, So the fit was observed through a couple of fastener access holes in the sheet metal shrouds. I think I got pretty close to good.!

Tomorrow I'll gas up and see if it's a go. It usually just takes a squirt of fuel in the carb to get it to pop!
That dang mac 555 would make your ears bleed coming out of that little square exhaust deal.
Really only saw I can think of that hurt my ears before.

Well, the ProMac 10-10s started first pull, on a squirt of prime, Took two more primes to get it to pick up fuel on it's own. A scant 1/16th turn in on the main jet had it singing a nice high pitch! (Glad I had the ear muffs on!)

Guys always double check info your fed by guys. Even me. I try and not spread wrong info.

I seen a guy telling another guy he can just put a stihl 026 49cc carb on his poulan 3300 54cc.

I thought to myself I have owned a bunch of those and I dont think so without alot of modification to the poulan.

Just to show something that was said in a poulan 3300 thread. About using a stihl 026 carb on it.
Well I have owned several of both.

For one please do tell me how you ran the choke on the 026 carb on the poulan saw? Being on 026 carb does not use one?

026 carb don’t even slide in without modifying the carb area. Then all tuning on left side.
If you flip it over it is closer but that creates all new problems.

IMHO just run the correct HDA49 Or upgrade to the 164 137 with big intake boot.

Hell, I've made a Husky 394 carb fit and work on a Husky 2100 saw. Had to remove the throttle and choke linkages and move from one to the other. The impulse circuit was the same. The fuel inlet was pretty close, but nothing too extreme.

Things can be made to work with a little ingenuity. Another big help is knowing how to remove pressed in fittings. As long as the mounting holes line up, you can do a lot of manipulating.

Oh I have made alot of carbs fit stuff they shouldnt be on. Had 272 carb on a 49cc partner 5000, HL carb on a 372, HL on 262.
Friends had 066 carbs on 490. 084 carb on a 361. Anything is possible.

But a 026 carb dont have a choke for a 3300 set up and not a stock set up for such. Guy never did it and talking like he had ;).

Partner 5000 on far right was running 272 carb. Had to run it upside down.

Just finishing up the simple but free mods for gains on the stock but muffler modded echo 501’s. Joe showed on dyno in past. .24hp gains just in the air horn itself.

I been running o-rings in my echos for over 2 years on the ported 490 one and never a fine by since. Another pretty much free mod.

Shorter time on the 2 501’s but same results.

Joe 4910 stock dyno testing steps. = his stock 4910 was 3.64 which was hair higher then the norm.
With the air horn mod he showed same saw going to 3.88.

I gotta ask, do you know the O ring size? Doesn't look like one that the assortments will have being long and skinny...

So you're saying I really should modify the intake on my 500P... I don't remember it having that cross in there but I wasn't looking for it either...

Sae on left 3 best fit. 272 in middle in mm next.

IMHO 490/500P it isnt going to help a whole lot. Be better a bit but if 500P rev limited like 490 you wont notice those small gains. It's just they all start adding up when done together.

This may be blasphemous for me to ask, but being that you like some of the echos, have you dabbled much with their earlier stuff the Shindaiwa chainsaws? The Japanese had those small engines (brushcutters, backpack blowers, hedgers) all dialed in. Even their top handle saws were little screamers. Not quite as good as the original MS200t, but even the new ones can’t touch the old 200t.

Anyways, just curious if you found anything from the original Echo platform that has stood the test of time.

I never did do the older Shins. My local husky dealer today was my local Shin dealer way back though.

I even pass on the older Shins due to parts out there.

I had some older echo's. 34cc and up.

They did their job too. Cheaper and got the same work done as more expensive saws.

Think I owned about everything from older days.

Just did this for kicks. I rate them on the same homeowner level myself.
Haven’t timed anything. But by feel in cut times alone. I think the strato PP4218 42cc was ahead of the PP400E corded chainsaw.
Ran same me stihl 63PS full chisel on each.

Def lean on the corded saw more

Timed cuts by hand timer. The PP400E was fastest on its 2nd cut and beat the PP4218 fastest cut too on it's 2nd cut.
Basically same same if working around a house close.

To show something I could have bought but sent to a friend that lived near it. I dont collect and wasnt going to drive 2hrs one way for another 50cc saw.

He got it now so I will share. Bought from original owner.

It's perfect cleaned up too and now in his collection.

I only had the idea to try this because a hilarious meme floating around in chainsaw groups this week.

I thought hmmmm I have 2 I can test this theory on.

In my group talking about styles of on/off switches. Pic as it arrived to me way back.

I had a momentary kill toggle switch on a 166 racesaw. No more forgetting to turn it on cold start racing.

Lot of husky stuff uses momentary kill switches today. Just swap them in your normal switches on them.

All my hand held blowers have them husky and poulan.

Just find right ones to replace your style.

The words corded and chainsaw just sound like an accident waiting to happen. It’s like putting a leash on children. Just because some of them may need it to behave better, doesn’t make it right. 🤣
