5105 John Deere
I have a 5105 John Deere, I have a problem with the electrical sys. I have no electric , I replaced battery, now key switch, but still have no lights or power of any kind. Real confussed. Oh I replaced every fuse in the fuse block too but still nothing. Hope someone has an idea.

I moved your post to the John Deere Owning and Operating section. Hopefully you should get some answers here.

Welcome to TBN.

Re: coyote77

Hi Coyote77, welcome.

You may need to locate some master fuses/fusible links - they are sometimes buried in a harness somewhere - you need a shop manual, or access to somebody that knows that harness well, to locate these quickly.

Good Luck,

Rgds, D.

As suggested already take a look at the fuse link. Attached is a picture from JDparts what it looks like. It will be under the hood. On my 5210 which is similar to your tractor it is on the left side above the starter.

Did anything happen before the problem started?

Thank you, I checked the fuse link , it is intact . I have power to the ignition switch when the switch is unplugged. That seems strange to me but when plugged in there is no power. Thanks again.

I was backing up after just starting it. I had drained the water from fuel filter but forgot to prime the filter. It died so to save time I used starting spray . It then turned once an made a hard knock an when I hit the key again it blew a 25 amp fuse so I replaced all fuse's but still won't start an have no lights etc. Put in new battery also.

I also put in a new starter switch. Checked to see if motor was free. I turned it by hand it is free.

That's a typical symptom of a faulty battery ground connection

I checked the ground from the battery to the engine block an seemed to have a very good ground. I thought the same thing too. but as far as I can tell there is a good ground. Gee's I hope I don't have to put my tractor down. LOL

You might consider getting a wiring diagram, check out selectmanuals.com, $29.95 for tech. manual. You may have a grounding problem, in that some + positive wire is grounding out.

You might consider this approach. Make sure the battery has 12.5 volts, (if there is something grounding out, it is taking the battery with it) pull all of the fuses not needed for starting the tractor, to me that would be f1,3,4,5,7 thru 15. I would think you only need f2 and f6. If f2 is the fuse that blow, disconnect the cold start advance. Post back is you do not know what this is. I know is this going to make it harder to start. See, if it will start or at least turn over the starter. If the starter turns over, stop put the key in the RUN position and push it in for a count of ten, then try starting it again. If it starts, but runs rough (while running) push the key in again, until it runs smooth.

Which fuse did you blow, as I do not see a 25 amp fuse?

Took out the fuse's except for f2 an f6, turned the key on and tried to start. The starter made one loud bumb and then back to nothing again. A real puzzele to me. Now I am at a real loss.

After some more checking of the sys. I found the starter relay was not holding through the cycle of starting and at first I had all electric, when I turned the key to start the relay made a half click and everything went out again. Thanks everyone for all your input. I'll let ya know if this was the problem and I'm pretty sure at this point this is the fault point.

This problem sounds like a bad battery cable to me. Have you checked for 12 volts at the large post on the starter? Connect positive voltmeter lead to the large starter post and negative lead to a clean ground on the frame. turn on the key and then try to start. Voltage might dip a little but should not go below around 10 volts at lowest. If it drops to zero or close to it, then you have a bad cable or connection. Do either of the battery cables have repair ends on them? That is a common source of problem with corrosion getting into that connection.
