John Deere 4600
Hey everyone,

So I might have bit off a bit more than I can chew with this project. I am not a mechanic and have never worked on a diesel motor but consider myself handy. I have a JD 4600. When I first bought it, it seemed ok. Not great but ok. As a few weeks passed, it started getting a ton of white smoke and oil coming from the breather tube.
So i tore into the motor and found the piston ings stuck on one piston and the piston ring and piston groove broken on the #4 piston. The cylinder didn't look bad at all. I assume the previous owner used starting fluid which I'm told is a no no. So I put all new pistons and rings in and new head gasket. I get everything back together and it's making this noise. Not sure what it is and need advice before I take everything back apart. The picture is what the oil looks like when i drained it.

I’m not sure what the picture is?? In the video I couldn’t hear any unusual knocking, they make stethoscopes for mechanics, you can use that to pin it down to a particular area of the engine.

A wooden dowel rod held to one's ear makes a cheap tractor/equipment stethoscope.

What came of it? What did you find?

Is the knocking in the lower end or up by the valve train? Could need a simple valve adjustment.
