Yes, Efco is the company in question based on my research. Savageayape, I do not follow you line of thinking in the comment about the JD branded saws. With my comment, I listed they "make" saws as a tongue-in-cheek statement. JD does not make saws, and I do realize this fact. I also realize they do not make Monopoly games. I also do not think I am encouraging anyone to purchase a JD saw. I own several pieces of power equipment in this class, and they are all Stihl brand, as I like the features and have a solid local dealer. That said, my father and others well known to me have had good luck with JD equipment in this line, even if it was not made by them but marketed by them.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood what you wrote in the previous post.

I hope this isn't getting too far off the subject. If it is I'm sorry... In my log home building research, I learned of one other chainsaw manufacturer which is considered to produce one of the best chainsaws available along with Stihl and Husqvarna, but I can not remember the name of that company. That's the main reason I was asking for the name of the Italian company which produces JD's chainsaws. Does anyone reading this know which company I'm refering to? I just can't remember the name, but I think I would remember it if I heard or read it.

Jonsered chainsaws is another brand that I am aware of, don't know if that is what you are thinking of however. :)

Yes, Jonsered is the other company I was trying to remember. I've never used one of their saws, and I only just learned of that company a year ago, but I was told they are very good chainsaws.

I bought a JD trimmer –I think it was an 32 ? about 5 years ago. It cost about $450. It was a disaster. I also bought a JD walk behind 22” 14SE or something lawn mower. It was a disaster.

I run a small lawn service company and now know better.

This is my take on small equipment. I don’t have a dog in the fight-just experience. Hopefully this is accurate. Members may want to check out lawnserviceforrum.com or similar specialized forums before you spend big bucks for this equipment;

Trimmers:
Stihl FS-250 for heavy applications
Shindawa for light weight

Hedge trimmers: Stihl or Shin-what ever feels best

Chain Saws:
Stihl MS 440 or MS 460. MS660 if you are younger then me

Walk behind-Honda commercial. Nothing is close these days (most people don’t understand home owner models are designed for 75/year. Commercial models-50/week. Biggest failure mode for commercial: loading and unloading damage!)

Blowers: Redmax or Stihl. I own 3 Stihls so you know what I use…

ZTR: John Deere or Scag. JD has the best mower deck on earth. Scag has everything else. Flip a coin and you will not lose.

Just my take-hope it helps.

Shinawa is an excellent saw.

Buster57,

Amen, brother. My only difference is I have had good service from my JX75 JD push mower.

Jonsered (Sweden) and Dolmar (Germany) come to mind. Husky is tops in my book.

We cut 100-200 cords firewood a year ( manually )plus small tree care work and have done power line clearance and tried STIHL HUSKY JD JONSERED DOLMAR and even one KOMATSU? .
There is a reason why professionals use STIHL or HUSKY they are just better
particularily STIHL but the only one i would never buy again is a JONSERED i bought 2 new ones and my friend bought 1 , They were so unreliable i just stopped using them , compared to these the JD was ok but for not much more cash you could buy a stihl and have piece of mind .
