Hello, I have a John Deere 4300 HST with a new problem. While plowing snow last night I had the tractor in low and while maneuvering the bucket I heard and felt a bang. The tractor stopped moving, I could raise and lower the bucket, I could engage the PTO, the high, medium, low gear selector was still in low gear, the forward and reverse pedals were locked. If I push down on the pedals I could feel resistance but the tractor would not move. So I idled down the tractor and shifted the through the gears, while raising and lowering the bucket, and engaging the PTO, and I was able to get the tractor to move. It ran fine for the remainder of plowing. One thing I also noticed, I have a 3-point tiller on the tractor right now and with the PTO dis-engaged the tiller tines would be moving at times? Thanks for any suggestions or comments. GD

If the tiller tines rotate with the PTO turned off, then the PTO brake is broken...a common problem.
Is it possible that the PTO got turned on inadvertently while you were plowing?

What does not add up is the HST not working then starting to work again.

Thanks for the replies, the PTO was not accidentally turned on. It would turn on and off actually. It seemed to turn on when backing up or at a stop. No ice on the pedals either. I could feel fluid resistance and the engine laboring when trying to push down on the pedals.
