JD 4100 Backhoe

I see there are many backhoes available like the Wallenstein and some Woods, 3 pt style and I wonder if a small tractor like the 4100 can accomodate one? In my case, this is for strictly residential home use, not commercial. I do not expect to try to dig out large stumps either, maybe small ones < 12" at the most.

Anyone with a 4100 or similar size tractor have a backhoe on it and how is it working for you?

There are several backhoes available for your tractor, but do NOT get a 3PH mounted one. The good ones will have a subframe that extends under the tractor and attaches in the middle at or near the loader mounts to distribute the load better.

The Woods Grounbreaker Series is a good place to start. You can also get the John Deere #46 hoe to fit your machine.

kennyd, thanks very much. I was not aware of the JD46, not sure when they came out with them but I suspect it was after I bought my 4100 in 98.
I always heard the 4100 frame was just too weak to handle the hoe.
But if JD engineered one, I have no doubt it will work with the tractor.

The 46 came out about 2002-4 maybe? It was available for my 4110 (virtually the same as your 4100) as well as the 2520 tractors.
