Hi, JIm.

Today I repplaced the PS column.... Now I have a longer PS column, but its not really working...

WP_20160704_19_27_34_Pro.jpg
WP_20160704_19_28_00_Pro.jpg

I drived after changing it. It seems to me that sometimes it is working and sometimes not. I also tried the 3point lifting - it works, but sometimes responds to noving of the wheel.... sometimes dips, but if I move a litle bit on the wheel it lifting works again normally.

Sometimes is working to left, other time only the right, sometimes uphil, other time only incline....

I dont understand it, maybe a long screw is tight, thought is lubricated normally now....now there is oil pression--

If there existed air in the system - it hade to be gone.....till now.

I have never seen a power steering valve housing neck that long. Is this the housing with casting # T25285?

Jim, it appears to be a steering valve from a 2840 or a 3130. A few other models as well. It is the same lower housing with an extension screwed on along with a longer steering shaft. It should work the same as his original. Lower housing should be marked T25295 and extension is T28270. I am guessing from his symptoms, there are some blown orings in steering valve and in rockshaft valve.

The first number is T25285...and the second # is T28388....

The seller told me that according to the catalog, this stering valve must be right for my JD1020. And hi has really right - every screw, caliber, the oil pipe join, gaskets a.s.o all are fitting perfectlly.

The bottom sequence is similar with the old stering valve column, but an the top part is longered with a 19 centimetres part, as you can see on the attached photo.

Hi...

I also used te tractor today..but the PS is not working. It is working exactly as the old one. I plan to try to pick apart the old PS... In order to watch what is contain and try to fix it with a new garniture. If I move slowly the wheel...sometimes is working for a few moments than its not working again. Now this new PS I have oil lubrication. The garniture and O-rings problems can be usually seen with the eye or has to be changed totally?!
What should I do?!

Tx Jim or JD110...

Could you please confirm if these two codes - AT26188 or AT315816 - (John Deere 1020 power steering repair kit codes) are good for my JD 1020 power steering?!

Thanks...

Yes either part number( AT26188 or AT3158160) kit should fit your tractors steering valve.

Hi, Tx Jim...

Today we dissambled the PS valve housing, I will attach some pictures. Now I see that all the 6 O-rings are situated inside the housing. When I will get the new PS repair kit, I am going to change wich is not going to be an easy operation. Do I see correctlly that all rings are included in the kit.
I think that there are some possibble troubles:
- I cannot see but the rings may be used up
WP_20160709_13_22_41_Pro.jpg
- the thick steel ring on the axle are look like a curved and forced, as you can see an the pictures
- one Zieger-ring from the axle is broken. It was broken from a long time ago.

Can you suggest something after watching the attached photos?

Thanks,
J Benedek

Yes all o-rings are in kit. I hope you documented the order of components including shims before disassembling shaft.

On the whole I know the right order, the pieces are inside a box and I made few photos about them.

I have a question: when I drive the tractor and I rotate the wheel, I can hear when the oil pressure is losing or lover in the PS housing, the housing whirring, buzzing or something like this. And thats when you can observe that an the 3point also the lifting.

In this case where could the oil and the oil pression be lost or bled - on the bottom part of the valve housing near the big oil piston, or somewhere above - ex. near the two valve bodies and the O-rings?!

And - I know that sound crazy - but when I drive the tractor to coast and its lifting a little bit to right side - the PS is working normally continuously. And also when I rotate very slowly. What is the resaon?!

In this picture, the plunger in the valve body appears to be stuck. You should be able to push in on plunger on right side and it should spring back. I appears to be pushed in now and not springing back to neutral position. The other valve body should work the same way. If these valves are sticking, this could be your problem.

So the plunger must move freely and easily... If I put on it screw losening or the graphitic spray I suppose that it is going to work fine.

On the attached photos it can be seen a deformed slim rings - is this a big problem?!

What makes it to operate these valves when I rotate the wheel - ?

The washers when steering shaft is turned put pressure on plunger that jd110 referred to similar to moving handle on a spool valve on a FEL. If plunger is galled I think penetrating or graphite lubricate will not help sticking problem. Keep in mind this plunger has been operating in hyd oil which has very good lubricating qualities.

As stated above, one of the first wheel of the tractor attacked a big stone in the past. Thats wheen the PS started not to work. In this situation the oil pressure impact can cause an several mechanical damaged on the valves and washers?!

May be possible I have to change both valve bodies?

Maybe than plungers be sticking after the PS housing functioned with a little oil, after I closed partially the oil pipe because lifting problems.

I dont understand why is the new-actually PS housing have the same problems than the old one. May be broken as the old one, too? I dont have any other ideas.....

Hi,

Last chance - I ordered the JD 1020 PS reparing kit... I hope it is going to be usefull.
But in the techical description there is the above given list- fit for series 20:
1020 (USA), 1120, 1520, 2020 (Europe), 2020 (USA), 2120 (Europe), 3120, 820 (USA), 920,

It is mentioned that it fits to JD 1020 (USA) and it is not mentioned fitting for JD 1020 (Europe). Is this a problem?!
