I pull my PTO shaft apart every three or four years and grease it all down. Wipe down, clean and grease the male & female ends - grease those plastic zerks on the collars - grease the zerks on the U-joints. Eventually the plastic shaft protector will ware out but cleaning/greasing seems to extend its useful life. Actually - I grease the U-joints annually.
