Least favourite implements to attach

My Pat's quick hitch and hydraulic top link makes for pretty easy implement connecting. If I had to pick one that is more difficult, it would be my 5' KK tiller because it sits so close and is so big, it doesn't leave a lot of room to connect the PTO shaft.
Yupp, and mine is 7'.

Side Sickle Barr attachment. It's a bear to attach. It's a bear to manuever cutting drain ditches on the side roads. Also can't get through gated driveways, except doing the zig-zag drivmg technique.

My worst is the belly mower on my Kubota. By the time the mower deck is rolled in place and you reach underneath to connect the mower's driveshaft to the PTO shaft, there is not enough room to see the shaft. You have to fumble around trying to feel it with one finger while you support the shaft with your outstretched arm.

Of all the implements I attach to my tractor, this one is absolutely my least favourite! Getting in there to attach PTO shaft and adjust the top-link is not easy, with the limited space and projecting "things" - like top-link sliding tommy bar, mounting plate for the spray valves, windscreen-washer bottle mounting plate, and of course the PTO guard where the shaft emerges from the tractor makes for some contortionist skills in getting it hooked up.

In comparison, the box blade is a doddle, also chipper and slasher, and the air-blast sprayer's not too bad either. I'm guessing the spray tank manufacturers elected to keep the heavy unit (600 litre capacity) as far forward as possible for weight reasons, also to keep the 6 metre spray boom from being too far back behind the tractor.

That said, it's a nicely made spray unit, and the saving grace is that I don't need to use it very often.

The handle in the foreground belongs to the pallet jack, as all my implements are stored in the shed on the concrete floor, and having them all on pallets is so handy.

My least favourite implement to attach without a doubt is my 25 ton log splitter. Once I hook it up it stays hooked up from late fall thru late spring, But it's worth it I still don't like having to hook it up though so my other tractor does all the other choirs. IMG_20201203_160905.jpg

post hole digger. trying to get it to stand up while hooking it up can be very aggravating !
Dragging it to the back corner of the barn for storage is not fun either.

I built a chepo 2x4 stand for my PHD. Made all the difference in ease of installation
Hanging the post hole digger from a chain is handy too.

When I was young Dad and I welded eyes on all the attachments and had an open air shed we could pick up and drop off pretty quickly. All the attachments lived off the slab on chains. Being able to swing them around with one hand made it pretty easy to line up the 3 point.

I keep a rubber mallet on my tractor. Works great for stubborn PTO shafts where you need to be holding the pin with one hand and pushing it onto the stub simultaneously with your second and third hands. A little whacking with the rubber mallet nudges it on with little effort and doesn't mess anything up like a steel hammer. Of course you need room to swing the hammer in there.

The sheds & buildings have concrete floors and gravel overhangs. Overhangs protect equipment and gravel makes it so easy, like moving things on marbles. I keep lots of 6x6 blocks about a foot long to prop things up making attaching easier.

My least favorite to attach is my logging winch. Very little room between the tires and and the winch guard, etc.. To hook the PTO I have to crawl under the tractor and then reach up to put it on, first slide it on to the winch and then turn it enough to line up the grooves then slide it onto the PTO while holding the PTO collar/ring back. Hoping all the while I don't drop it on my face or chest. At 79 years of age I can think of other things I would rather be hooking up. 🤣⁉️🤔

My backhoe.
Not even close.
My most difficult 3ph attachment is absolute child’s play compared to getting the backhoe successfully mounted back on.
We’re talking about totally different degrees of difficulty. 3ph attachments have the luxury of moving the lower links, adjusting bar link lengths , etc..
My Massey backhoe has 1/2” tractor frame attachment plates welded at 90 degrees with, what I guess to be 1 millimeter clearance at most, to the backhoe frame.
You need to get lucky getting the tractor exactly, almost factory assembly line perfectly in place to the backhoe frame.
I even have my wife try to help
Reminds me of a Rubik’s cube . Just when I’m about to loose my mind , and declare it impossible, it suddenly aligns and I can fit the pins. I usually don’t even know what I did differently on the last attempt

Reminds me of the kid who never spoke a word. The parents had him to different doctors who were of no help. One evening while having supper he said "the potatoes taste like crap!". Astonished, his dad asked why he had not spoken for 12 years. The kid said "Up till now, everything was OK".

I'd have to say my least favorite is my Case "SA" wheeled disk. I wrestle with it every time I attach it.

I bought back when I was truck farming in my early 20's because it made a great bed for those types of crops. Seems to follow me everywhere I go in life. I guess I'm "married' to it?!!
