Is this really a grease fitting?

Yeah, I think that is for lubricating the plastic collar on the PTO shaft. I used to grease it, but don't anymore.\

If that's for lubricating the collar, is there a zerk fitting somewhere for lubing the actual shaft?
So you poke this thing through the plastic fitting on the guard, and just let the grease go into the area inside? Is there a zerk in there?

Yes you just poke it in and pump grease. For the shaft look on the U-joint. you should have a 45 degree fitting to grease the U-joints. Should be one on both ends of the shaft.

As Mike noted, that is for greasing the plastic collar. I've always just used a grease gun on mine. It holds on fine.
I grease that, the u-joints (there is a zerk in the middle of the joints), and occasionally I pull the shafts apart to put a little grease on them to keep them from rusting and freezing up (I've not found it necessary to do the shaft very often. I just check it every few years.)

I went with a little bit less sharp option, works well, used it last week on the same plastic collar.
Rather than poke through, just press against as the tip is flat.

On my equipment there is a ring with a step in it on the pto shaft that another ring in the guard, with a step rides in.. The grease goes in-between the rings, or close enough to keep all turning more easily than without grease..
It is all plastic on plastic and eventually will ware out, so some lube will not hurt..
