is draft control needed ?

Guys im looking at buying a new 35-45 hp compact for use at a hunting club on food plots using a disk to cut them up. Soil and terrain will vary from rocky shale to bottom land.
One person says to be sure and get draft control , another says dont worry about it ... Its a $500 option. Should we spend the $500 or not ? thanks

Draft control will help keep an implement at a set working depth. Especially nice for mold board plowing. For $500 I would definitely add it.

I suppose it depends on how variable your soil conditions are and how much you are going to use the tractor, what implement you will use. You can do the same thing manually by just raising the position control lever by hand a bit when the going gets tough. For a disk, I wouldn't worry about it, sub-soilers, chisel plows, moldboard maybe it would make life simplier.
I was just looking at the LS tractor site and they don't have draft control till you get to the R,U and P series which are the 40 and up HP tractors. The small CUT in J and G series (20-38HP) only have position control, but all models from smallest R, U and P series have position and draft control as standard.

I use it but almost exclusively in the ground leveling category such as grading and gravel work with a landscape rake. That would be it's primary use for me.
If you aren't doing any of the above you probably won't need it and many that have it don't understand how it works. If you have the $500 to spend, you will eventually use it on a road or similar. If not, you can always add it later but it's best to install now while clean and easy to get at for the dealer.

Boiled down, I'd get it if you can afford it.
