To start, I dont know much about hydraulics. I am using my grandfathers International 766 with a bucket loader.

I unhooked the two hydraulic lines that hook from the remote and hooks into the rear of the tractor. I did this and forgot to hook them back up. I ran the tractor in the field for about 30-45 minutes and the loader slowly moved toward the ground - so I moved it to the shelter while I could.

Also Note: the cylinder has a leak.

I need to get the loader back up. The fluid was very low and I put 5 gallons back in it - still wont move.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you flip the little levers where the hyd lines hook up after you plugged them back in? They need to be in a horizontal position to supply oil to the loader.

Yeah I was trying both positions with no luck - thanks though, I know what position it needs to stay in.

Also Note: the loader was working fine before I messed with it.

That why im thinking its something simple. Make sure the couplers are plugged all the way in. Those old 66 and 86 series tractors you usually had to reach around behind the coupler block and push the female part to the rear while pushing the hose end forward to get it hooked up properly.

Do I have to prime the hydraulic system if the fluid got too low?

Did I disturb something when I unhooked the two lines?

U dont have to prime anything on those old tractors. They are about as tough and reliable as can be. I keep thinking its gotta be something simple, but other than the hoses, I dont have a clue. I cant think of anything that you could have "disturbed".

You said 2 hoses. A loader usually takes 4 unless you have a joystick type of control valve. If this is what you have then you need to supply pressure to it by using the tall lever next to the seat right in front of the 3ph control. Push it down or pull it up till it stays in place then your joystick will have pressure to work with.

I will try this tomorrow! I wasn't sure what that lever did so hopefully that will do the trick - Thanks again for your help, I'm learning the hard way.

Although I dont believe it would be considered a joystick - it is just two levers. But there is a long lever to the right of the seat I never used, I'll try it.

Thats it! That long lever operates the couplers on the back of tractor. It has to be engaged to supply oil to your 2 stick control valve.
