In case anyone wants to know, a Toto toilet can swallow a KILO of poop. That's 2.2 pounds, people. Paper doesn't scare a Toto. Don't know about septic tanks, however. My last pumpout took place after at least 7 years, I poured cooking oil down the sink all the time, and the tank was normal.

We use the Kroger fuel points. By shopping on fri. I always save $1 on 35 gallons.
I have Walmart + because of Straight Talk phone service. I always get .10 a gallon off.
Its surprising how so few people take advantage of fuel savings.

Maybe it's different in your part of the world, but most of those "fuel savings" gimmicks are not as good a deal as they seem.

The only fuel savings I've seen that are worth much are at Irving, for every 50 gal. you get 10¢/gal off one fill-up. They occasionally have online games where you can get discounts as well. Again, they're one-shot deals. Their prices are generally on competitive, and their stations are everywhere so it makes it worth it.
There's a Vt./N.Y. supermarket chain (Price Chopper) that has "loyalty cards" that enable you to get the advertised sale price on select items each week, purchases also accumulate points toward (again, one shot) fuel discount. Trouble is, they're only good at Sunoco stations, which are (1) not very common around here and (2) generally have prices that are 7-8¢ higher than everyone else. Some deal. And their grocery prices are on the high side.
Give me a store with every day low price, not gimmicks any day of the week.

Locally, none of the retail locations, even with their discount promotions, come within $0.25/gal of the local Costco gasoline centers, but I know I'm spoiled in that regard.

Costco does phenomenal trade selling gasoline.

I’m fortunate in my travels to have an independent with very low pricing… the tankers arrive daily including Sunday.

Often 50 to 70 cents less per gallon than the majors and same price cash or credit.

Fine if (1) you have one nearby and (2) buy enough bulk stuff to make the membership cost worthwhile. Not all of us fit that, especially those who actually live somewhere rural.

I agree, that's why I said I knew I was spoiled, for exactly those reasons. We drive enough that that the cost savings on tires alone would offset all of the membership fee, but again, not typical.

I've spent time in your corner of the country, hiking and skiing, and densely populated it is not. I think it is a gorgeous corner of the US, but yes, not enough folks nearby wanting to shop at Costco to make putting one there worthwhile to Costco.

Even that's a bit of a gimmick. The pump will stop at 20 gallons. Around here the few remaining locally owned stores try to keep competitive prices, and all things being equal I'd rather give my money to them.
On the other hand the nearest Dysarts is closed on major holidays, although the pumps are open with a card. I make it a point to fuel up there on those days.
Sometimes twice, once down and once back.

We have a Costco in Coeur d’Alene. We hit it when necessary while eating out, doing errands, etc.

Its about a 30-40 min drive into town, but not everything we need is available out here in the sticks.

And i do enough service calls in town that i can fir in a grocery run pretty easily.

I actually schedule generator service calls around the days i need to go into town. That way my customers are paying me to drive into town and i can piggyback my own errands. Do the same when i make appointments to meet friends for long lunches. Ill schedule a few generator calls. Free lunches…….

Martin's just got sold again. Hopefully they'll continue their great service. Kroger on west side of SB is closing. Most likely got shoplifted to death. It was always kind of dirty in that store as long as I can remember, and we've lived on that side of town since '85.

Ugh.

We have 5 Krogers- one on each side of town and one downtown. Locals call the downtown location Kro-getto's- Full time police presence inside for the grab and run liquor "shoppers". Camera tower in the parking lot. Nice store otherwise- hope we don't lose it.

Me and another guy at work used to do this. Had the best time comparing dumpster diving finds and roadside pickups. He would also cruise pawn shops to get a good deal on tools, so he would sometimes bring stuff in and sell it to me. Always old mismatched sockets, etc., but perfect to use in the boat tool box, etc.

We would also trade stuff we found/liberated from dumpsters. He put in an "order" for a 70's style leather covered table lamp one time and durned if I didn't find one for him.

My daughter's HS was being renovated and a full dumpster was outside of the physics classroom. Her physics teacher was a good guy and we had a lot in common. One day when I picked her up, I told the physics teacher I was going to check out that dumpster. "Don't bother," he said. "I already got all the good stuff."

A friend of mom and dad's was the chief engineer for B.C. Rail supervising the construction of the Dease Lake extension and delayed his retirement for at least two years to finish it. He worked his last day on a Friday and died on the ice while curling the next morning. This is what influenced me in agreeing with the boss to quit work and walk away from my business fifteen years ago at the age of sixty-two.

The dump was only about a mile away and he was friends with the attendant. The next day he brought it home, cut out the center where you sit and had 2 nice sets of drawers for storing tools in his shop.
