So I've hijacked a couple threads talking about this one so I figured I'd finally start my own.

My great grandfather bought this new in 1951 (I believe I still have the receipt somewhere, it was crazy cheap compared to today) and now I inherit it. Great little machine to tote around and has definitely got its use through the years. Here's some pics, the first was taken yesterday, it's at my cabin so I snapped a pic while I was up there, and the rest are photocopies from during restoration, towards the end, I need to find when it was in bad shape pics, but it sure has come around.

Nah, don't really use it. Just toting it around now and then. If there's a light snow fall I'll use it sometimes. I have plenty of other machines not to get this one dirty if you know what I mean. It is surprising what it can do for a 13HP machine!

I still like pushing snow with my Cub Lo-Boy and mount a mower in the summer to groom our walking trails. I have an IH 4x8 trailer that came with the tractor when my FIL purchased it. I still use the Cub for hauling firewood and yard cleanup duty. It is an amazing little workhorse.

Nice Cub:thumbsup:

Mine is a 1948. Needs rings and valves (another winter project).

I sold my belly mower and got cultivators. Just rebuilt the carb and gonna do points, plugs and wires this winter.

I was looking on YouTube for cub stuff and found a guy talking about gaining power. Search "how to get more power in farmall cub tractors". Might try cleaning her insides up too. Anyway here's a pic. Since this pic I added two more shovels on front. Need two more for the rear now.

Hmm. I was almost positive I saw 13hp. Maybe 8PTO HP?

I think we may both be right!

http://www.atis.net/CubFAQ/cub_faq.html#q5

"When the cub was first introduced in 1947, it produced about 8.5 drawbar horsepower in the Nebraska tests, Test Number #386

Through the years there were a couple of changes to the engine, and later Cubs produced about 14 drawbar HP.

The changes that account for this HP increase were an increase in compression ratio, due to a piston change, and an increase in Idle, Max. speed to 1800 RPM, from the original 1600 RPM. There was also a change in the carburetor design, which may have affected the HP slightly. "
