ps.. in case i forgot to mention it. it's pretty horrible what they are doing to teachers these days.

having to bring in their own supplies and pay for plenty of stuff for the lassroom.. long hours.. low pay.. can't imagine why anyone would become a teacher nowadays..

Soundguy j/c why mess with IE? (unless I am completely clueless with todays IE) I dumped IE at 3 or 4 dont remember anyway get Firefox and forget about IE. my .002 good luck oh and agreed on educators have 2 friends one was coach/history teacher and his wife w/ 3 masters was principal at local HS both shake heads at the "educational system" indoctrination for better terms...

as per my posts. stuck using IE for some things.

For some reason som govt agiencies get tied to it.

at her school.. the interface they use to enter grades .. IE is the supported browser.

at my day job, I have to log into some govt websites.. adn again.. IE is the supported browser.

I believe that will soon change.. witht he loss of XP support from microsoft.. that mens many will ditch old XP boxes if they still had them.. and the bulk will be win 7 or 8.. with some vista users hanging on.. adn FEW xp boxes. xp has a limit of IE 8 AFAIK. I hit plenty of sites that bark at even IE8.. saying it's too old.

anyway.. to the point. at the end of this year.. xp support closes.. that means you will see ie 8 get left in the weeds too.. you may see some sites that are prefering IE have to open up the platform a bit... plenty of legacy machines will go out of service at the end of the year.

at my night job.. HUGE complex with many, many, many POS systems.. all running xp.. and the server on just a pro machine... go figure... All ddedicated systems with a POS shell so you never see the OS unless something crashes.. but int he end.. it is just a all in one ( cpu and screen together ) with xp and a touchscreen puter.... network and hdd.. etc..

same kind of stuff happens at the wife's school.


they redid the network the day before school started. no teachers had computers on the network.

now.. weeks later.. they have limited access to fiels and past meails. principle can only get to last 5 days of email.

it's quite a deal there.. their IT people must also work part time for quik lube places too...

the day before school.. when the it types were running around breaking the network I was in my wifes classroom setting her stuff up.. and noticed the data ports ont he wall.. they had white ones for data.. and orange ones for their weird networked phone system. ( lables on them said data and phone.. so no guessing.. eh? )

I noticed they had the phone in the data port.. pc int he phone port.

mentioned it to the wife but she said not to touch it.. might be right... 1st day.. no phones.. no p.. it made it to her classroom after 2nd day.. among other problems.. wires were swapped.

It may sound mean.. but i hope their it guys make less than I do. I'm responsible for triple digit thousands of dolalrs of A and V equipment, lighting, live and studio gear.. I maintian, install and repair it.. use it daily. if i did my job as bad as those guys do theirs.. I'd have been out of this line of work 15+ys ago...

Hi, I'm an IT type. However, where I was we would never do what those school ITers did right before the start of school. They should have set up times for all the teachers to get computers set up on the network before school started.

You can run IP (internet protocol) phones and data on the same line. You run them on different VLANs (Virtual local area network) on the network and they never know each other is there unless one starts hogging the line. In that case you set up priorities for one or the other, but normally with voice getting the priority to insure good intelligibility.
