On my 1920 there are a couple simple brackets that you would use on chain link fencing to tie the fence to the round end post. They bolted the bracket to the rops and down lower to something else (can't recall) and you just slide the shovel handle down into both brackets from the top down. It then stays in place till you need it.
I have also seen people use PVC pipe strapped to the ROPS and they stick the tool handle into the PVC.

My neighbor uses gun racks on the rollbar of his JD to hold rakes, etc.
