I want to install a switch to bypas seat safety switch

When using my forks, sometimes I have to stand up to see where the tip of the forks are so I can guide them into whatever I am picking up. If I stand up to adjust the height of the FEL then hit the pedal to more forward or backwards, the engine stalls since I am not sitting on the seat. I would like install a momentary switch that I could hold when I am doing this to bypass the safety switch. I could disable the switch all together, but I would rather not. I like that safety feature.

Any idea's on how to do this? I would want the switch mounted somewhere accessible when I am standing.

I am not BIG fan on disconnecting saftey devices but,if your model has flipper type ty-rap it down or black electric tape.

With my Massey all I had to do was take a small zip tie and wrap it around then tighten. No problem in a year and like everybody else I haven't wanted to change it back. You start adding switches and it's just another place to cause a problem down the road. It's easier to just clip the zip tie with side cutters or a jack knife if you decide you want it again.

If something happens . Even if it is unrelated . Investigators finding bypassed " safety " devices will report that safety in general is not a concern for the operator/owner.

I worry about the zip tie option. I'm worried if I something happens, I don't have that safety switch enabled. My luck, I'll fall of the tractor and it will run me over.

You just need to wire a switch of your choice in parallel with the switch that is there.

Izicc's idea of a momentary switch is actually quite a good one. :thumbsup: Like a "dead man's switch" in an early locomotive cab.

I ziptied mine down, works great. I have a HST, so it will stop if I fall off about as effectively as a kill switch.

 

[Winch Fix it]

I would install a battery power shut off switch on the supply wires to the battery. Then your safe to go forward and disconnect that seat flip switch and join the wires. Or possibly relocate the wires from the seat to a safety lever switch mounted on the hand lever area's. These two devices mentioned I would recommend buying from a reliable source of heavy duty materials.

You just need to wire a switch of your choice in parallel with the switch that is there.

That's what I did for the chipper so I don't have to turn the seat around to use it. I hid it under the seat overhang so that it's out of regular view.

On my 1643 Massey, I drilled a small hole in the plastic switch arm, took a copper wire and made a hook , passed it true the hole and attached the other end to the seat frame lowering the plastic switch so the switch thinks I,M seating and it is easy to put back the safety device without any damage to the device.
