Hydraulic vs Manual Scrape blade

/ Hydraulic vs Manual Scrape blade #41
Brian, can't remember if your blade is hydraulic angle??

That's what he's referring to. Having to remove the cylinder to reverse the blade. Is yours that way?? Pics if not??[/QUOTE

You can see on this Land Pride RB37 series that the angle cylinder (if equipped as an option) has to be mover from one side to the other. The turn table only has a single point of attachment for the cylinder. But this only occurs on single function hydraulic units that can only have 1 hydraulic on the unit and is for angling the blade. I emphasize the single hydraulic angling because there are also single hydraulic units where only the offset function is hydraulic, and they too have to have the hydraulic moved from one side to the other depending how you choose to operate the unit.

To the best of my knowledge, ALL rear blades that have the 3 blade functions available for hydraulic functioning do not require having ANY of the cylinders moved to be able to provide a different function, actually they can not be moved, they each have their separate locations. Look at this Land Pride RBT3596. You pull the blade angle pin from the rod end and rotate the blade clockwise. You turn it clockwise so that the blade tilt hoses spin around the boom and not under it. Probably takes all of 30 seconds. Notice that the turntable has 2 points of attachment 180* from each other.

My blade is the same other than I currently do not have hydraulic tilt on my blade, so I can spin my blade in either direction. ;) The second picture is with full offset, so I can reach out over 4' past the edge of my tractor.

I guess maybe some hydraulic blades are a pain having to change what side the hydraulic is on. You will find that is with the hydraulic angle only blades, not the ones that have hydraulic offset capabilities. I assume that you pull a pin and rotate 180* for your blade, I can do the same thing. No big deal. ;)

If you have to get off the tractor rotate the blade 180 degrees, what is the point of having a hydraulic blade?

To start with, I do not, I just run the tractor in reverse if I need to use the back side of the blade. But some hydraulic angle blades have to have the hydraulic cylinder moved from one side to the other IF you want to turn the blade 180* and run it backwards. This is very common for plowing snow and simply smoothing gravel drives.

You ask why have a hydraulic blade? I can change the angle of the blade left-right 45* either direction while the tractor is moving, try doing that with a manual adjust blade. I can offset the blade either left or right while the tractor is moving, again try to do that while the tractor is moving. I can tilt the blade left or right while the tractor is moving, again try to do any of these adjustments without getting off of your tractor and still have it moving with ANY manual adjustment rear blade. Good Luck. That is the exact reason to have hydraulic actuated adjustments. :cool2:

I'm all over the hydraulic adjustment theory. I've got an old Rhino manual adjust blade. Plan to convert it to hydraulic. Actually gonna start with the beam swing, then the blade angle, lastly the tilt of the blade. :)

In reality no good reason to have the blade tilt when you have top & tilt unless you are actually ditching. The tilt cylinder should give you more than enough tilt. That or if you are cleaning out ditches, then the tilt and offset become HUGE assets.

I have three hydraulic functions - angle, tilt and offset - and have to move the cylinder.

It's not a big deal as the way rear blades are used, you are almost always changing the direction of travel anyway. And it's still great going from straight to angle with the hydraulics. I do sometimes wish I had the full range though.

It's a really heavy duty blade and I did get a good price on it, so hard to complain. I will probably order the box sides for it soon.

What make and model is it? I can't remember ever seeing a 3 hydraulic function blade where this had to be done. :confused3:
