I think I still have some fluid leaking from the hydraulics on my JD 430, after installing a new rear cylinder. The fittings don't swivel, so it is possible for the hoses to store energy after you install them and try to unscrew the fittings over time.

I want to add couplers that turn, so the hoses won't try to come loose.

Can someone tell me the correct size fittings to get, so I don't have to crawl under the tractor just to get this information? I believe they're 1/4 inch.

Yes hoses can and do move/twist when pressurized.

Is this a 430 lawn mower or small older farm / utility tractor?

Is the leak where the fittings attach to the cylinder? If yes are these O-ring boss style fitting?

It's a garden tractor. The fittings screw in. No O-rings.

I found some 1/2" swivel fittings at Northern Tool, so I bought them thinking they would probably fit. Five bucks each. I haven't installed them yet. I'm getting a portable lift to pull the upper pan off the tractor so I don't have to strain my back.

You would think swiveled fittings would be included with the tractor. Just common sense.

We understand you Suburban Plowboy. If it is difficult, it has to be someone's else's fault. :D

That's probably what GM execs said about customers before the Japanese sawed their legs off and obliterated Detroit. We sure showed them!

John Deere charges $800 for a lawnmower grill and $260 for a badly designed muffler. I can only imagine what they would charge for a swivel fitting, if their engineers were smart enough to specify them.
