My new 1870 the HST pump/motor has quit a laoud wine. is this normal? I asume it is but was wondering.

Some models and brands are louder than others, also you may have young ears. As you get older these things just kind of fade away. I had a noise that was driving me nuts when I first bought mine, I finally bought a pair of radio headphones and now I don't hear or worry about anything.

it seems the smaller the HST equipped tractor the louder the whine. I don't know why that is, but I have noticed it. Some have mentioned filling the ROPS with expanding foam insulation seems to quite it down some. It seems the ROPS acts as a resonator.

Quite normal my friend. And yes, the ROPS amplify the noise.

When you change hydraulic fluid use Kubota's Super UDT2, rather than regular Kubota UDT fluid. Super UDT2 will quiet your HST whine considerably, especially the higher frequency whine.
Super UDT2 does cost a bit more.
