HP increase module? Deere 3038e

Years ago I knew a farmer that installed turbos on his tractors for improved fuel efficency.
Went to White service school and they showed us the gears in the 2-135 transmission and the 2-155 transmission. They 2-155 was about 1/4 inch wider just to handle that 20 horsepower.
Want to see what overfueling does to an engine? Just watch the pickups when they are "rolling coal".
More fuel does not always mean more power.
Do you want to see what happens when engines are turned up? Watch the tractor pulls, two or three turbos (maybe more), lots of smoke from the diesels, and bangs from the blown hemis, fires, and lots of twisted off drive shafts.

I have stock chainsaws, and modded chainsaws. Wanna guess which ones I pick up first?

The ones with the best horsepower/weight ratio.

I aint skeered to mod my stuff. In fact, that's half the fun of ownership. I can fix anything I can break. 😬

I love that adding 10% more hp is the equivalent of a “pulling tractor” blowing the top end off and launching it into the air for some people.
My thoughts exactly!

I nearly rolled my L3200 lifting large bails helping a friend I had a rotary cutter on the back & 2 50 lbs sacks of something on the back of the cutter. Lots of ballast weight with even more ballast leverage due to the cutter length. I think I had loaded rears by then too. It would barely lift the bales, so lack of hydraulic pressure was my concern. Right up until the back end got light & things got squirrely. Bale fell off & I didn't roll. A while later under warranty the front axle seals started leaking. Dealer changed out the seals & bearings.

I can't say the bales caused the front axle issues, but I'm sure it didn't help.

HP & hydraulic pressure aren't the only limits on these machines. I'd much rather have my hydraulics go into relief than my contact between the tires & the ground or front axle go into relief. Much cheaper & less likely to kill me View attachment 3158532
That tractor looks too small to be lifting those bales.

In 1993 I ordered a new Chevy truck from a small dealership. Wished I kept it, manual, no carpet, 350 small block. First thing I did that night was remove catalytic converter and replaced it with a J.C. Whitney "test pipe".
The guy who always inspected it said "where's the converter? Oh...must be a Canadian model" then put a sticker on it. It wasn't louder and always better mpg & power.
That 3038e module supposed to be 51 HP now and I can do everything at a lower rpm. Zero exhaust smoke & sounds much smoother. It has a low-high-off switch. You can turn it off and see the difference. I keep it on high.

Yes I know the pulling tractor is the xtreme, but it is an example of what overfueling can do.
Some tractors may be able to stand 10% but some cannot without bad things happening.

Years ago working for a MF dealer had a customer that purchased a 255 diesel. As with most he did not want to pay the price for the next larger model and asked if we could turn it up. Since the 265 used the same engine we attempted to do so. Removed the pump side cover, loosened the two bolts turned the stop slightly reinstalled the cover started the tractor. Put it on the dyno and had 70 hp out of it. The tractor is sold as a 55 hp tractor. Customer said leave it at that setting and took it home. The next week he brought it back and stated it now gets too hot, set it back some. So did so, this time it came down to 66 hp.
On an MM M602 a fellow put a turbo on it and used it to grind feed. While he was behind the mixer shoveling corn into the hammermill the kids would spray some starting fluid into the air intake. Reason: "They like to see the black smoke". It only broke the crankshaft.

Some don't have a problem with a problem modifying engines, some know how to repair it if something breaks.

That is all what JD has had a problem with "right to repair", they are afraid of owner modifying tractors and causing issues.

If @Bentrim had been there Icarus would still be cruising around the skies today!

Part of the reason I replaced it with a L4060hstc. Not that I've really moved any bales in the 6-7 years I've had the new machine.

Within reason, yes. Can be tough to fix a block. Can be really expensive to get another one.
