This is my first legitimate "owning/operating" question for our 3130DT which arrived Friday. Kinda like going to the local tavern with Dad when I turned 21 for my "first" beer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

The owners manual cautions against "excessive work or operation" during the 50-hour break-in period. Is hauling half-full buckets of gravel or pulling up SMALL (3 to 6 inch) shallow-rooted trees "excessive"? I don't want to do any damage, but I do have work to do & this purchase gets harder to justify to a certain woman if I just use it to go to the mailbox.

Thanks.

I think the object is to vary the RPM and the workload to aid in seating the rings. ??

Like Egon said, vary the rpm and load; otherwise break it in as you're going to use it. No reason not to put a good load on it for several minutes at a time. In fact, that will be much better for it than just running it slow and/or unloaded.
