How much ballast

I would still go with filling the tires. less bearing weight on the rear axles, less banging around on the 3point as well
Using washer fluid for $1.50 - $1.70ish a gallon. easy to do yourself.

Have you ever done lifting with your tractor and wished you had the weight? liquid filled it doesnt happen much at all.

The front wheels on my 4WD, 25hp Bobcat tractor get buried, the rears spin freely even in low, and I've have had to lock the rear differential on more than one occasion to traverse even the tamest portions of my deep-sand, hilly lot. (I know, what I really needed was a track Bobcat. Have you seen the price of a track Bobcat?) Before I go price a camel, would ballast add or further compromise traction in this situation? So far I've taken air from the tires (20psi rear, 25 front) and have resisted adding ballast to them. (I alternate between using a box scraper as ballast or none at all.) Thanks.

p.s. I'm appending this as I break for lunch, then I must go back out (in 109 degree heat) and shovel "Junior" out of the sandbox.

Deep sand and sinking - maybe a tire with a bigger footprint is best here. How much better is the situation with a box scraper on the 3pt?

I'm running the stock (industrial) R4s. I had the box scraper attached in this latest fiasco. (btw, I finally got out of the sand trap by riding down a hill I would have preferred not to...although there's no problem going downhill!) I'll return later tonight without the box, try to stay in more packed sand, and will let you know how it goes. The problem is, you go over packed sand with a tractor a few times and, voila, no more "packed sand." I'm thinking I may need to remove the loose sand down to packed sand, then have some form of aggregate brought in and installed....
