I have to Share with you how I got my tractor:

I have been wanting a tractor for a few years, but it really was an unreasonable purchase. My brother passing in February put the thought of a tractor closer to a possibility.
As the estate was settled, my parents gave my sister and I some money. I paid off a few bills then took the wife to the mall. What do you want?, I asked her.
We spent 800.00 on earrings and a necklace. As the deal was being settled i told her "I'm ordering my tractor!" She was so giddy with the shiny stuff that all she said was "Really!" not an argument one.

The tractor has been good theropy for me, it took my mind off my brother and lets me think of something else. I call it my $20,000 therapy

Anyway, thats how I got my tractor.

I am sorry about the loss of your brother :(. As it relates to tractor acquisition you utilized the "distraction" and "buy off" techniques . These techniques are much less ego damaging than the whining, grovelling, and kowtowing techniques that I have to employ . Use you new tractor safely and well and hold on to those memories. Jay :)

Sorry to hear about your brother....... and congratulations on your tractor.

I made my wife help clear brush, level some dirt, and (the clincher!!!) shovel a foot and half of snow from the driveway :eek: !!! It didn't take long for her to realize we NEEDED a tractor. Of course, i also learned that when she brings home yet another pair of shoes........ i say "Very nice honey".

Congrats on the tractor...very sorry to hear you lost your brother.

And very, very, sorry you had to waste $800 on useless baubles! That could have been a nice implement or two.

I am lucky, my wife dosen't like jewelry. It took me years to get her trained up but it can be done!

Sorry to hear about your brother. I lost my only brother in 1970. Doesn't a day go by I don't think about him. The pain wears off in time, but the "miss" never does. Now, every time you enjoy a minute of "therapy" on the tractor, just remember who made it possible.

And, if your wife is like mine, she's getting just as much pleasure out of seeing YOU happy as she is with her gifts.

How I got my tractor was easy... I just went and bought... well the wife was just a little aprehensive but not mad, especilly when she found a use for it. Then came the mini excavator, same thing just bought it she saw uses for it imediatally never a word said. Then came the dump trailer, same thing never a word now she sayes the mini and the dump trailer is the most usful things we own. Maybe it has a little to do with the fact that 3 years ago I had a heart attack and double bypass and life is tooooooooo short and now she just went through a masectomy and is doing well. I guess the moral of the story is if you can afford it buy itif it makes you happy buy it, tomorrow you may not be here to buy it and have that big smile on your face we all enjoy when we are using our toys and dont let anyone kid you they are still toys !!!!!! They are just real ones not the one we had when we were kids !!!!!!!!!!! V

Sorry to hear about your brother .
I lost my younger brother on 4/4/7 so I can sympathize with you.
Both my parents are gone but losing a brother is different somehow.

Very sorry to hear about your brother. Mine was shot to death in the mid 80's in Cloverleaf (hear in Texas). Its a real loss when you lose them. Enjoy the tractor.

Truly sorry about your brother, he stuck with the Air Force through some really trying times and it is appreciated.

As far as tractors are concerned after looking for several months my wife tells me "We both know you need one, why don't you just buy one already!" Even now, after a bad day at work she may ask if there is anything for me to do on the tractor. Cheers me right up.

I appreciate all your warm thoughts. It helps to hear from others that have lost a brother. This was my first close family member passing, and I was the one who found him. This brief thread has helped me immensely, knowing that others have the same pain.

Steve, my prayers are with you. I haven't lost anyone immediate to me, but for a brief second your post put me in those shoes. I didn't like it. :(

I'm sure he's happy to see you putting that tractor to work!

My brother and I would talk on the phone about every evening .
Although he didn't own a tractor he enjoyed discussing them with me on the phone as well as many other subjects.
Even to this day when ever i come across something I know my brother would enjoy discussing the first thought to cross my mind is i Gotta call Ronnie and tell him about this and then it hits me I can't do that.
It's still an odd empty feeling even after all this time.

Sackett2's post is kind of making the best out of a bad situation. I bet his brother would be very happy to know that even after he passed he was able to do something nice for his brother.

Ridgewalker your post really made me chuckle. My husband in our "city" years had gifted me with much beautiful valuable jewerly. However now that I am a farm girl I gasp occasionally have thoughts of selling some and buying an implement or two. I never wear the stuff any more and it has been 4 years, so yeah that thought has struck my mind also.

So sorry to hear your brother has passed. Makes you realize how short life is, and how we cannot take it for granted.

That is one nice, special tractor.

Take care,

Have fun on the tractor, life is too short to not enjoy. I also lost a brother two years ago at age 44. It's rough for a while, but time will eventually win over and we can enjoy his memories forever.

Sorry to hear about the brother.

Haven't had an actual death amongst the siblings yet but the half-brother has effectively "acted" his way out of the family via his conduct and attitude so I guess that comes kind of close. No money out of it, just a sense of "righting the course" and getting things back in line. Did I mention he's my older half-brother........ostensibly his moral compass should be more honed but, alas, it is not and he can't get it figured all out.

Anyway, as far as how I got my tractor...................I worked and saved and when I had enough cash I went and bought it. I did the same with all other implements and tools. I didn't expect anyone to hold a note for me and waited until I could pay cash and carry. Nobody to blame at that point.....just me and my buying decisions. Yeah, it took years in some cases but now it's mine and nobody has any say over it. Period!

As for the little lady and I, we have an agreement. We each have to meet the bills and obligations, no problem, and after doing so the money left over is ours to do with as we each see fit. Save....spend......invest.....go to the girly-bar, whatever. BUT, we better each have the money to take care of problems and hit all bills or there's going to be trouble and that runs both ways.

So far, so good......
