Just bought a used 425 for $2500. Has 1600 hrs. Light material bucket, 4 foot mower, Roto tiller and an Aeravator from First Products . Terry at Power Trac said it is a 1999 model. It has been kept outside its whole life, but everything seems to work so far. It just needs some TLC. Sorry haven't figured out how to post pics yet.

Sounds like a good buy, the price is right for sure. Now cleaner up, change the oil and do a maintenance check for any leaks, look at everything real close hydraulic hose’s ect, then tuck her away in a garage or shed and you may get another 1,500 hours out of her. These are tough little machines. Some pictures would be cool..

Thanks to eveyone for the warm welcome. KentT I agree 110% about the pics. I will try to attach one and see what happens. Pajoube I am from central New Jersey. It was bought off of a lawn service and they paint a portion of all of their equipment blue. So that is why the ugly blue color is there (if I am successful at posting a pic)

Looks like a pretty danged good deal to me... the implements alone would cost more new than you paid for the entire package. So, you essentially got a free tractor! Soap, water and paint is cheap.

BTW, I also bought my PT 425 used a couple years ago. It was sold new in December 2000 so it's about the same age as yours...

Not sure, I just ordered some green for my John Deere 140 H-1 garden tractor. It just came in a while ago, so I'll take it out and compare the colors with the PT in the morning when the light is better. I would guess it is a very common factory green, and very close to the PT.

It's pretty close to the original paint...

It's Rustoleum's Industrial Farm Equipment paint. The color is John Deere green. It's available in lots of hardware and farm stores, etc. for about $12 a quart. I've had pretty good luck using a 4" roller and rolling it on -- no brush marks and it flows out pretty good. From a few feet away, you'd swear it had been shot with a spray gun. That quart will cover an area that it would take SEVERAL $6 spray cans to cover...

Unless I'm mistaken, the actual original paint is Sherwin-Williams Industrial Green, not John Deere green, but JD green is pretty close...

The first pic is from the day I went to buy it. Notice the blue Ventrac behind my PT and all of the attachments up on the wall.
Pic2 is a after I just finished mixing my compost pile. SOOOOO! much easier than the pitch fork I have since used the roto tiller to mix the pile with excellent results

Hi 3238dpw, and welcome to the PT forum!

Regarding your inquiry on the paint----For the GREEN PTs the PT factory uses Sherwin Williams Enamel. The color code is: F77G13. This information was posted ~3+ years ago, but I can't recall who posted it. I was going to buy some to keep on hand, but the smallest size is 1Gal, and when I checked it was around $32. I didn't need any at the time, much less a full gallon. If you are planning to repaint the entire unit, and want it to be "authentic" the Sherwin williams will be your ticket.

I compared the paint as far as I can see, it is a very close match on the PT. To me looks exactly the same. If you use your PT like I use mine, it all looks the same anyway after it gets good and dirty.

I would go with the spray per my link, more control and less running with an even coating, should be better in corners and tight areas. Not sure if you can buy the equipment paint in stores in spray form you may be able to find it. I really didn’t try. I would also use the extra clip on handle. You can buy these at Home Depot for a few dollars.

I think with the rattle can you should get a very good paint job. Turn the can upside down and push the button for a second after each finished coat, or until you get all of the air out of the line then wipe the tip off with a paper towel. I would do this after each coat applied and before the next spray session to decrease paint splatter. I would start with degreasing and cleaning off all oil / dirt. Then a first dusting coat, let it dry then go to the next even coat. If you want it to look really nice start with a primmer coat. The Rustoleum is a high performance fast drying Enamel.

I have used the clip on handle that you are talking about before and they are worth the money. I liked them good enough that I bought some extra ones.

I agree, for quick inexpensive paint jobs with a can it helps with ease and control. I have a Wagner power painter, but find using the can more convenient and just about as good for most small jobs.
