Messmaker - Fess up, If you want a Sherman tank - just go out and buy one. That's an interesting looking unit. However, it would be like most any 4WD vehicle - if it EVER DOES get stuck - it will be in a location that very few could get to, to give assistance.

What part didnt you know?

I have no doubt those tires have better traction, but I wasn't impressed with his video. I could easily do everything he did in the video with my turf tires. I also got pretty good about not tearing up turf when turning.

Not so much what the video shows, but what he says. My experience pretty much is the same as his. I tore up alot more turf with the standard tires. Going around trees, the nice ~6' diameter circle or whatever. THe standard tires had no grip. So you would make what appeared to be a nice 6' circle, however, either the inner or outer wheel could be slipping the whole way and you have no clue. The AT101's dont slip. They actually force you to hold the levers correctly.

Any tire will tear up the turf when doing a zero turn. The key is a K turn, or a three point turn.

Its hard to compare one guys experience to another, especially in a video where its really hard to get a good picture of just how steep slopes are. No two properties are the same. But having used both turfs and AT101's on the SAME property, the difference is huge. Dad still has turfs, and comparable mower. His is a bobcat ZT223 61" mine is a scag 61". Same tire sizes and all. There is a swale/ditch that separates out properties. In the spring it can lay a little wet in the bottom long after everything else has dried out. I can mow it when he wouldnt dare to. That tire running right in the bottom, will start spinning then hes done.

I guess, in summary, if you have no issues with turfs, dont ever mow a shaded hill and slide, or get stuck at the edge of a wet spot.....then turfs are for you. But if you have been stuck or slid down a hill even once, consider AT101's for your next tire. All the crap about tearing up the yard is BS. They are every bit as easy on the lawn and possible even less damage will be caused under normal conditions due to the rounded edges the guy mentioned in the video. But they have so much more to offer if conditions are even the slightest bit dicey.

Very interesting. I'm sure for certain situations it would be great.
It's very viable for MOST situations. The TRX has two decks available... one standard high lift, and a flail type rotary (mini bush hog).

The tracks were specifically chosen to provide excellent turf care. I have seen turf damaged more easily by wheeled units. I have demo'd these units. They're great at both finish AND rough mowing.

How many people have a need to mow the swamp????:)
Not many... but there are many other applications with wet/soggy ground/turf.

Water surrounds, drainage paths for right-of-ways, or poorly drained turf, etc.

Did you notice that it can be had with a rough cut mower?
The rough cut deck is a rotary flail type mower (mini bush hog type "swing blades" or "fulcrum blades"). The specs say up to 1/2" material... but I've witnessed 1" or better.

It certainly looks cool. I can't imagine it being able to mow a nice yard without tearing it up. I'd also guess it's expensive. I'll have to keep using my 4x4 B7200 to mow sketchy areas.
Pre-market MSRP projections are in the $18k range... VERY competitive with all commercial grade ZTRs, and even with some "pro-sumer" or higher midrange models.

Why are all the mowing shots of this thing in the wilderness? Who mows that stuff? If your trying to reclaim land, wouldn't you reclaim it first with a tractor then plant decent grass or pasture on it, then mow?
You've brought up a good point.

This machine actually outperforms such measures, ESPECIALLY in terms of intermittent mowing/clearing. Any ag tractor combination would result in serious soil disturbance in such conditions. The high flotation, lighter weight, lower ground pressure, and higher reactive area give this machine a distinct advantage.

As a matter of fact, it will go where most 4wd subcompacts would have a hard time, if not an impossible challenge.

I noticed that they didn't show it going down much of a slope. My zero turn has no problems going up, but going down can get interesting at times even with AT 101 tires.
The higher tractive area, along with the better weight transfer of the tracks ensure far greater down-slope traction.

Interesting, but limited application. Way too small a cut for any serious off lawn work in my opinion. And not heavy enough for brush.
Granted, in wide open flat areas where soil/turf disturbance is not an issue... a tractor combo would be more efficient.

However, if soil disturbance, obstructions, excessive trimming, or high flotation is needed... their machine outperforms the competition. The rough cut deck is spec'd for up to 1/2" material... but I've seen it handle 1" or better. In terms of finish mowing, the finish deck has Altoz' proven quality of cut.

Also, the higher flotation allows you to get out and start your day earlier in damp/wet/regularly irrigated turf conditions.

I wonder how much track vibration the driver feels? Some tracked equipment relays vibs through its chassis and it gets quite tiresome.
During my demo, I experienced ZERO track vibration. The tracks are a rubber, single carcass, belt reinforced, contiguous contact design... which eliminates the "chatter" often experienced with other track designs.

The only opportunity for intermittent contact, lies in the internal side lugs... which are there to prevent the tracks from jumping the rollers under extreme side-loading conditions.

The track system also features built-in torsion bar suspension, and a few degrees of rotation to smooth out bumps already lessened by the high flotation design.

Not much demand for something like that. I am very surprised that any company would spend the development time to make such a contraption for the 2 that they might sell in the entire North American continent. There must be other attachments to go on it other than a mower deck for it to be used for anything practical, maybe a snowblower for you guys in the frozen North.
A snowblower is reportedly in the works. A blade is already available.

As for potential sales... all I can say is, you should've been at the GIE+Expo in Louisville a couple weeks ago. Their reps never got a break, and pre-sales are through the roof.

If I had $54k lying around, I'd buy three of them and have no less 500hrs on each of them by this time next year.

That drive arrangement wouldn't be long for this world working in rough conditions. I came across a large NH snowmobile trail groomer with the same arrangement but larger. It sat in the middle of the road with a wheel broken off.
The track system is extremely robust. I wouldn't say it can't be broken... but I can say, with utmost confidence, that mechanical failure would definitely be the result of extreme abuse.

Their track system removes all of the non rotational load from the drive hub. In other words, the only stress applied to the drive hub itself, is the torque applied from the independent integrated drive (engine power/braking). All other dynamic loads (bump/steer/off-axis torque/etc.) and machine weight are supported by the lower non-driven guide rollers. Also, the internal components (bearings/etc.) are of superior quality to any snowmobile or hub-mount track system. As a matter of fact, the primary load-bearing guide rollers have beefier components than some small tracked skid steers.

...and this is a problem?

I mow enough building lots that the rough cut mower would be fantastic. Haul a 1500lb mower rather than a 4300lb tractor. After being stuck myself and pulling out countless zero turns, I can see the tracks being pretty sweet. I compare it to a Toro Groundmaster(whitch I have always wanted). It is a little cheaper.

I used to mow around my pond with an old sickle bar mower. I'd drop the sickle end right at the edge of the pond and it did a nice job. Also kept the tractor a good ways away from the water.

Pretty cool but it is still a unitasker. I'd rather get a tractor with rubber tracks on the rear and be able to use it for many, many, many jobs.
