Bucket Hooks Hooks on bucket.

/ Hooks on bucket. #41
From what I can see in the pics the addition of hooks to the bucket are the equivalent to the kiss of death for tractors and they never work again/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If I weld hooks to my bucket will it get all shiny like those pictured?/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Does anyone have any pics of where not to weld on hooks to a bucket? Why don't I see any on the inside of the top lip?
Thanks,
Martin

Another not-shiny bucket (Attachment).

My well-used bucket came with only an unreinforced hitch ball at the center. I think that was used to lift the 700 lb disc that has accompanied this tractor for 20 years.

I bolted on four Cold Shuts (chain splices) rated 2600 lb SWL to make chain attachment points. Chain threaded over those points won't bounce out when it goes slack, and they make a good place to carry chain when it is not in use.

This wouldn't be suitable for heavier loads but considering stability in motion, I don't expect to carry anything heavier than that disc.

Two pieces of 1" plate for a backhoe ripper tooth.

Laminarman,

That 1" plate was welded with a Lincoln PowerMIG 210 - which is only rated for 1/4" or so (single pass, using solid wire MIG process) .... and it hasn't busted yet. If you use multipass and proper technique you can weld much thicker metal than what the machine is rated for.

Why was the dealer steering you towards MIG ?

0. It's a bigger sale for him .... no doubt. But ..... maybe that's what he would believed you would be most happy with.

1. It's easier for a beginner to pick up (you don't have to move the rod in as you try and weave and travel along the weld path, which sometimes is hard enough /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

2. It's cleaner than stick - very little flux to clean off after you've finished, makes nice looking welds.

3. It's fast.

4. Errr ... did I mention it was fast ?
