with a 540 pto your line speed is going to be about 400 ft a min. I built winches for tractors in the past and used a gearing of 9/1. I have thought about building a set of double drums with a small tower. Using a 4speed and disc brakes using the drum brakes for yarding frictions. would be a fun project, but anymore being able to use it is another matter. They log so clean anymore that it wouldn't be worth it for cleanup and firewood.
I have a model 9 gearmatic set up if anyone wants it. Is set up for cat two and works well.
