The longest I can remember being out of power was about 5 days. That was in 2002 for Hurricane Lilly.

About 2 years ago I installed a 24kw generator that will power my whole house and my shop. I had to run about 850' of 1" natural gas line to get to my generator. Since March 1, 2023, it has run for 13 hours that we were out of power.

It was expensive, but I am really happy that I made the investment, every time the power goes out.
Lucky you we had over 3 weeks with Hugo outside Charlotte, NC long way from the coast. About that long a few years later with big ice/snow storm. Over 1/2" of ice topped by 18" of snow, big deal in southern NC, northern SC

A few years ago, for Hurricane Delta, our power company was reporting 98% of their customers were out of power. We never lost power at my house. I thought that was a small miracle...

I was looking at a 22KW unit. It was going to cost as much to install as the unit...not cheap.

I'm looking at a 3pth unit. All that I care about is running my fridge and freezers often enough to keep them at temperature, and running the water pump. To the OP and others in the path, it's good to hear that you suffered no major damage.

Is that a 3 point hitch PTO unit or a 3 phase unit?

All the best, Peter

Tornado watches in southern Indiana from the remnants, tonight.

Be safe, my friend.

Luckily, south of me... But I was just down there last week cleaning up storm damage from three weeks ago.

Second Day

Power came back on at 9:30pm. We where on the generator for 26 hours. Not horrible, but still annoying. The little window AC unit sure makes a huge difference compared to not having anything.

I really need to start working on getting the house ready for a whole house system. Getting the Natural Gas line into the house, and to the utility room, and running the wire from where the generator will go, to the panel.

Now to get back to work!!!

One man's curse is another's blessing. The remnants of Beryl ended up passing directly over Indiana, an area of the country that was plagued with drought and in desperate need of rainfall. I even got a small taste here in central KY and we NEED more.

Here in Southern MO we got 4+ of much needed rain, all the ponds are back at full pond on my place. Good place to be in July.
Good luck to everyone dry out there. We had it very very dry last year in these parts.

Nothing here. We had a line of thunderstorms heading our way tonight, and it just vanished. We got a little breeze and some dark clouds, and no rain.

Lived 25 years in OK...got used to tornado warnings, but never really relaxed during the tornado season.

Retired in PA now...seems the tornadoes have followed us north!

Heavy rain, but luckily Beryl passed without incident...in spite of all the tornado warnings.

We got a bit over 4" of rain last night. Some wind, but not too bad. There's a small brook that runs thru my property...first time in the almost 20 years I've been here it's overflowed its banks. Yard is REAL soggy too. They're predicting another ½"+ today.

Is anybody near Toronto Canada? My brother lives there and he's claiming that he got 8 inches in 4 hours. I'm struggling to believe this since I had 6 1/2 inches in 24 hours, and I'm a lot closer to where Beryl hit the US then he is way up in Canada.

Here in north central Indiana, at South Bend, we got 3.35" yesterday. However, in a line running east to west across the state about 25 miles south of the Michigan border, they got some pretty impressive amounts in 24 hours.

We have friends that live about 45 miles SE of us. They had 5" of rain, but the 200 acre lake they live on rose 29.5". They had to put weights on their pier or it would have floated away. It was lifting the posts out of the lake bed.
