My BIL (brother in law) is shopping for a tractor. Here's the info.

He has about 4 acers. Budget is $20k. Requirements are a tractor with loader and a 60" mid mower. About 25hp min. We will craigslist any other implements or attachments like a box blade and probably a flail mower.

He primarily needs a lawn mower but wants to get a compact or sub compact with a loader so he can do small jobs around the house.

So far I am looking at the LS MT-125 that just came out.

My buddy works at a Mahindra dealer. The emax25 is on the table and looks like a great tractor. I hear it has a fabricated mower deck but haven't seen it in person yet.

New Kubota's and JD's are just not worth the price imho but we will listen to any input.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmmmmmmm..... Kubota is the largest player in the USA in under 80 horsepower tractors by a wide margin.

Check out the Kubota L2501/HST.

How close are the various tractor dealers to your BIL?

Well tell the OP WHY the Kubota L2501/HST. should be considered.
The list on it w/ FEL, QA bucket is about $21.5K, so with a discount it should meet the price range.

For one point it's a tractor that was designed to be bigger and more powerful but "detuned" to slide under EPA regs.

You are on the right track.
The best advice is to go and try them all on and find the one that fits.

Fair enough. I probably didn't state that very well. I think Kubota's are great and if money was no concern they would be at the top of the list. We do plan on getting a quote from Kubota, maybe they will be competitive. From my research a year or so ago when I bought my tractor they were several thousand higher for the same hp/weight/features tractor.

Kubota 30 min drive.
JD 35 min drive.
Mahindra 30 min drive.
LS/Kioti 1.5 hour drive.

There is a Branson dealer about 30 min away but I just don't know enough about them.

We have pickups/trailers and don't mind driving a bit for the right tractor.

Thank you for your input!

Does the $21.5 include the MMM by chance? We will certainly look at and get a quote on the L2501.

Thank you for the input!

I believe the L2501 does not have a mid PTO for a MMM .

Looks like the l2501 is about $21.8 without the MMM assuming it's available. I didn't see it listed as an opton on the build site. I have seen the MMM's going for about $2k with a tractor so the dealer has their work cut out for them to get below the budget and include a mower.

After talking to him at Sunday dinner I agree it's time to put him in the tractors and see what he likes.

I appreciate all the help. Feel free to chime in with any other ideas or comments.

Mitsubishi/Mahindra 1526 should be under $20k, Similar to the L2501, 3Pt is way stronger, Loader is a bit stronger and weighs a little more. Same physical size.

I have a good friend that works at the Mahindra dealer so we are definitely looking hard at Mahindra. The emax25 is about the right size but we will look at the 1500 series as well. I know from shopping last year Mahindra seems to be making some great tractors.

Thank you for your ideas!

The local Kubota dealer was having an event yesterday and had Kubota reps on site. They said that the L series doesn't support belly mowers, and only the Grand Ls have a mid-mount PTO, which still doesn't support a mower. I believe the reason is that the fuel tank is in the way.

The L2501 does not have mid pto, but the B2650 does. I have one with a loader and 60" deck and has been an awesome tractor. Very comfortable operator platform and I have never run out of power doing any task. Price might be better than you think depending where you are at. Good luck.

B2650 is a nice tractor, has 3 speed hydro and Kubota quality. JD has some nice machines $$$?, Also consider the MAX26 over the E-Max, much more capable and still small. LS and Yanmar also. Best deal, dealer support, and features, plus BIL needs to drive before buy of course.
