Not trying to sell either but I have used Walmarts Super Tech transmission/hydraulic fluid and Tractor Supplys Traveler brand transmission/hydraulic fluid. Good prices.

Don't know the capacity but I will "guess" 10 quarts. Sure would like to know when you find out.

Does the operator's manual spec a wet clutch compatible oil?

I don't think he has a wet clutch or brakes. My 2002d has wet brakes but uses the same fluid as all other old old Yanmars.

yea use the universal tractor fluid that meets jd303 spec. I buy 5 gallon pails to. That $30 seems like a really good price. i think the last bucket i bought from agrisupply was like $37 or something, i have paid $40 at TSC as well.

I wouldn't complain at $50! Here for 20L (5 gal) it is about $140..... :irked:

303 is listed in Yanmar's manuals issued at least up through early 80's. But they also recommend five minute warmup before moving the tractor, probably to get that stuff warmed up and circulating.

I think the limitation of 303 is simply that is single-weight oil and therefor suitable only in mild climates (or else requiring long warmup). The additional $10/pail for later multigrade oil is justified most of the time, in particular if you need cold weather operation. I run 303-conforming oil in my manual-transmission Yanmar and its self-contained backhoe (and live in a mild climate) but step up to TSC's Traveller UTF (multigrade) for the Yanmar that has Powershift. (clutch packs and hydraulic circuits like an automotive A/T).
