Harbor Freight 3-point quick hitch

/ Harbor Freight 3-point quick hitch #161
I finally got around to mounting mine and found out it will only fit my 1 of my attachments, not too handy. The top hook won't fit the way my attachments are braced. I had already spread the mounting, ground the metal a bit and thrown out the box so, I don't think a return is in my future. They do offer a adapter for the top hook, maybe I'll look into that.

I have one on order. I have a KK 5ft brush cutter, KK 5ft finish mower, KK 6ft box scraper, if anyone has these implements could you tell me how it fits?

I have one on back order, also. If you get your's first, let me know how it works with your implements. I'll do the same. I have a 5' KK rotary cutter and a 5' KK boxblade.

I'll do that. I see you are running Debian. How do you like it? I have only run variants. Could never manually configure X

I ordered mine a few days ago. I tried to check status online yesterday, only to find that the order number hadn't registered in their system. I tried the online help for about 5 minutes - it must have been break time in India... I cancelled mine last night. I think I will spend the money on Pat's system.

As you can see from my previous posts the HF QH isnt working for me either. Another concern I found was when I was able to attach my rake, the Quick Hitch frame realy limited my visibilty also they mention an adapter for the top link. But I have yet to see any posts or infro on the HF site to see where they can be purchased.
At this point, I have reboxed it and wait for a return label and credit. I am then going to get the pats hitch, I probably should have in the first place. But sometime the cheap Yankee in me takes over.
i would think that you could rebox yours in some type of box to ship it back. Youd have to ask them. Ive received several other items that had no box at all.I assume these are boxed because of where they are made. And have to be shipped.
And I see that TBN is supported if we buy the Pats hitch also. I like that idea.

Add me to the list of the QH from HF that doesn't fit. Guess I'll call their customer service and get a return authorization. Too bad; I hoped mine would fit. Has the "fit" problem been solved with anybody that returned theirs?

Ahh there was a mention about the adapter. Im sorry didnt remember seeing it posted here.I still think that it would make sence that HF would alos list it or show it when they advertise it. And not have to take the long route around.Did you or anyone buy this adapter? Ill have to email him and see if I can find a part number. Im sure that the 11 dollar price is cheaper than all the shipping they will be spending. Ill post what I get for a reply. Thanks for directing me to that previous post.#92

Re #170:
Allan, I have ordered the adapter, but sent my QH back for exchange. If not OK this time I will probably negotiate with them for a discount so that the design shortcoming causes them some pain and will more likely result in a better product down the line. The adapter should be here in a few weeks and looks handy fuw the QH and other things. If you want one Im sure the guy I mentioned in the post can order it for you. They seem to be just coming up to speed on this - one fellow I talked to didnt know about it.

Good to know. I emailed and told about the lower problem we all have been having. And I have a friend who is also in the same boat. He is shipping it back. But If when they email me back, i am considering asking if they can supply the bracket instead of the return shipping. I expected to have the lower opening problem and wasnt too upset when I found that that splitting wedge opened it enough. But then with the top hook problem. Geeze . So Ill wait and see what happens now.It would even be worth the money if I had another use for it..

Boxed mine up tonight and taped on the return sticker. Loaded it in the jeep along with a dolly. She is headed back in the AM.

Also got the return label today. I wish they had 'offered' us the optional bracket at time of purchase. I for one could have lived with the bottom end trouble.I assume that someone at HF wont say. HMMM maybe the optional part should be sold with or without it. I'm sure, If I were offered the part when I paid for the shipping I would have bought it for the 8.76 price. even if I never used it.
But for some reason I think they go the Wal-Mart way. The employees aren't respected enough. Management doesn't think they have any ideas. But its funny, they are the ones who see and hear the customers..Oh goodness. I better watch what I say here....

At any rate. If anyone is considering buying the hitch, you should download the manual on the HF site and take a look at this adapter. If you feel you'd need it. Include it in the order..

For those sitting on the fence on how hard the modification would be, here's some detail photos:

1. As received.

2. Doesn't fit.

3. The "adjustment" tool.

4. After trail and error, it seems you need something slightly greater than 1.5" at the opening to get a good fit.

5. Slides in with no problem.

6. Ready to go to work.

Takes about an hour at most for both sides. For the money paid, I can live with it.

For the money, I may just order the adapter and see how it works out. If anyone already has it, how well is it working out?

Quick update. I tried to order the adapter, but it comes up as no part avail.
I like the bolt expander tool of the last poster.
Its beginning to get frustrating. If anyone has purchased the adapter, could they post the part number if they know it, and how its working for them? Thanks.
heres a link to the adapter. But no part number that works on the order website. And the person on the phone couldnt find it either.

Has anyone had a problem with the post office refusing to accept the hitch with the label simply taped on as opposed to being in a box?

UPDATE. :) I just made contact with HF and have ordered the 'adapter".The tech person replied that the company that supply's the adapter had and has no plans to allow HF to offer the adapter at the time of sale of the hitches.Apparently HF doesn't stock the adapter, but subs it to another company.
Doesn't seem to make much sense from any standpoint.
One would think that they would want to sell as many as they could.
So as far as the hitches needing to be "reworked":D . thats the way it is and seems to be in the future.

Daydreamer, ain't it amazin' how folks will send things back and buy stuff that costs 3 times as much, because they ain't willin' to make a few mods. Why it might void the warrantee.
