Spent a little time cleaning up around edge of the field this weekend. My 12 year old was proud of the work we got done. The grapple definitely made it a little easier, we got 3 loads and took them to other side of the farm the dump trailer saved making 15 trips and dropping stuff everywhere. I built the grapple 10yrs ago and still haven't gotten it painted. IMG_20180903_133815783.jpeg

finally got around to cutting some Euchs I have been wanting down for years, each year the get a bit bigger and leave quite a mess of dead dry branches and leave that drop every year. Well NO more they are out I could have saved my self some $$ it I had done this 44 years ago. Bet this stump weighs aprox 3000 lbs, a*cubic foot*of fresh*water*weighs approximately 62.4 lbs & this Blue Gum weighs 70 lbs per cubic foot when green . The grapple is 64" width

That.
Is.
Awesome!

I imagine that section of the tree is even heavier than the average weight per cubic foot, since the wood is typically more dense at the stump than in the middle of a log.

Very nice pic!

A little too big for my wood splitter :confused3:

Yes I didn't realize how big it looked too, when I got off the tractor to take the pic, it barely fit in the grapple and I couldn't get the mass close to the piviot pins

Slab it for a table top.

I was headed down into the woods to do some work this morning when I found a fallen tree blocking my way. It must have come down Saturday afternoon in the high winds we had with a strong cold front that came thru. Went from 55 to 35 in about an hour. If this wasn't a grapple job waiting to happen I don't know what is.

Just grabbed onto it with the grapple

Cut it off

And carried it to the side where it wound not be in the way.

As we all know having a grapple can turn a hassle into a minor nuisance. And give you an excuse for posting pictures. :D

My thought on the humongous chunk - it takes somebody pretty skilled with a chain saw to bring down a tree that size. You hear that critical - "crack" - you move to that predetermined place of safety. Should things go wrong - tree falls on "alternate" path - I hope your place of safety is still safe.

The Tree had a pretty good lean to it as a result of the wind off the pacific ocean. I know of that go to safe place you speak of.
