I have one rear remote and the third function, both Kubota kits, on my
L5740. I have run a skid steer hydraulic post hole auger off the 3rd function for two big projects, including a large deck and approximately 70 post holes on a fence project. It definitely beats digging holes by hand or even with a backhoe for post holes, but it doesn't spin the auger as fast as a skid steer with high flow hydraulics. If it's an implement that you would be using every day where time is money, I would find another way. But if it's for occasional use, it works great. I didn't notice any issues with the third function valve overheating or anything like that. I've also used 3 point hitch augers, and the hydraulic auger is much better as far as control and the ability to easily reverse the auger if it gets caught on a rock. The ability to provide down pressure with the loader is crucial in hard ground. Also, at least with the
L5740, I don't believe you can have mid pto AND third function, since the return hose for the third function ties in where the mid pto would attach. If I remember correctly there was a thread on TBN and I believe the cab models all have the mid pto gear installed, but the open station models would have to be ordered as a factory option, otherwise the tractor would need to be split to install the internal gear. If the tractor already has the internal gear for mid pto, the pto shaft assembly simply bolts on.
