Thanks for all of the replies gentlemen. Not sure if anyone will see this question, but any ideas how much it costs to add a front (mid) PTO to a 40 series grand? I'm guessing that won't be cheap either. I guess I'm realizing in dollars why everyone recommends getting machines with all the extras at the time of purchase. This particular machine is a really clean 5740 with 1500 hours, for $25k. Adding all the hydraulics will be 3 to 4k, mid PTO adds more, and the goal of adding a backhoe adds another $5k bare minimum, if I'd be lucky enough to find a used one with the subframe. This same seller had a really clean L45 a few months back, with a rear remote and obviously a hoe, for $28k. The price of used machines really starts to vary wildly when you get into add ons and backhoes.

Maybe 4 to 5 hundred .... I would look for a tractor already set up..... 3 rear remotes plus 3rd function plus backhoe hook up plus mid pto..............:confused2:

With respect to post 11.

Adding the mid PTO is rather simple and reasonably priced. Unfortunately you'll need to confirm if this tractor has the internal gear to drive it. Although only a few hundred bucks, the tractor needs to be split for the installation of the internal gear.

I've attached a copy of the wholegoods document you can read to gain a better understanding of the situation. Also suggest you contact your local dealer with SN in hand to see if they can decipher if it was built with the internal gear. Also have the dealer verify the information about internal gear as these documents can be wrong or superseded. Ignore the prices as the document is old and will need to be confirmed. At least you're armed with info to be better educated. :)

Kubota Backhoe BH92 new will be close to $11,000 once installed.

Good luck

Note that WR Long says their 3rd function valve is not sized to run a hydraulic motor such as a rotary broom. I wonder if that means there is an issue running a hydraulic auger?

If you end up finding a good deal on a machine with a backhoe, it will be plumbed with the power beyond port which is perfect for running a 3 point log splitter.

If you keep looking you might find an L5740 with some or all of the valves you want. For the cost of a pair of remotes or a 3rd function valve you could ship a tractor quite a distance. After months of looking, I found a 5 yr old cab L5740 with only 105 hours at a dealer in Wisconsin and then had them add what I needed (subframe and plumbing for a BH92 that I already owned, 3rd function valve, and a second rear remote w/float) then shipped it to Colorado. The dealer in Wisconsin quoted about $550 less for installing all that stuff than my local dealer, so maybe they were happy with what they were making on the 5740, or maybe my dealer here was sore that I wasn't buying an L6060 from them.

The WR Long kit is electric over hydraulic and isn’t designed to be a constant “on” type setup. That’s why it isn’t designed for what you stated. I use mine for a grapple which works well. I haven’t tried it with a hydraulic posthole digger, but it would probably work fine for that.

I believe I had read that the WR Long valve will heat up too much if running an auger or broom. I took it as, momentary use only.

I agree, I'm going to have to wait and find a Grand 40 or even an L45 that has most of what I want already. Unless I could get a screaming deal, I'd be wasting tons of money to add everything after the purchase. With the 40 series Grands, what makes them harder to find for me, is the fact that most have cabs. I have seen some set up exactly the way I want, BH, valves and all, for under 30k. But, they have cabs (which makes them an even better deal), and I will destroy a cab on my property, plus I am hopping on an off my machine constantly.

I'm keeping an eye on the used tractor sites nationwide, and the local Kubota dealers, and FB marketplace. I'm sure something will pop up, and this thread has educated me greatly, so I thank you all for that.

Why a mid pto on a tractor that size?

What about the cab makes it harder getting off and on? The doors? If the deal is that good remove them. I just got a L6060 and had Kubota's third function added for grapple and two rear remotes, one with float which cost a little more. Have not use the rear remotes a lot (only have 22 hours on it) but have used a rear offset flail mower on it for say three of those hours and have no noticed any issue with the rear remotes not holding. Have seen this warning else where so am watching for it.

I have Kubota and Jd with rear remotes and they are direct operated by cable from lever. These are if not mistaken electric control and would have to be as short as the levers are with maybe three inches of lever for I have to use fingers only to operate them. Have no feeling in their operation either.

As to price on this machine brand new the Kubota third function and each of the rear remotes were "about" $1,000 each installed. One rear remote is standard and one float.
