Looking into new trailers and trying to figure out if disk brakes are worth the extra money. Has anyone gone from drum to disk brakes, and if so what are your thought ?
From what I read from the hot shot guys they are worth every penny.

I have disc on two of my three trailers. No comparison. I did a conversion on my 12,000# trailer. I would say 1 axle of disc brakes is better than 2 axles, maybe 3, of drum brakes.

There is a reason cars and trucks all run disc brakes now days.

Disc brakes surely are better, but how much you use the trailer and also traffic conditions should probably be considered along with the price difference. Then decide.

Traffic here absolutely SUCKS ! Our area has one of the largest numbers of a - hole drivers in the world. It would be towed a few times per week. I think its around a 2-2500 option

Why so much? I converted my 12K trailer with drums for $800ish. Biggest cost was the hydraulic unit, about $500 on Amazon. The disc kits, Kodiak, per axle were about $180 per.

If they remove the drums there would be a credit. Drum brakes run about $125 per wheel.

Yeah, it would definitely be more cost effective if done on the original build/purchase. I wonder in this case if the dealer is stocking a trailer with drums, then charging $2K-2.5K to convert. Then he ends up with all the drum stuff to sell off as repair parts to other customers. Maybe investigate having the dealer order a trailer from the manufacturer equipped with discs??

Im in the same boat. Had issues with My corn pro trailer with electric brakes, and have been searching other manufactures to purchase a new trailer. Every buddy I talked to said disc is the way to go. Im looking at ordering a Suretrac gooseneck with the electric/hydro disc setup
