@Wagtail with the door facing away from the sun, and a good marine varnish, they should last a long time when you have finished. I have beamed porch finished liked that that while not absolutely new looking is in great shape. I did refinish portions exposed to rain and sun after forty five plus years.

Good luck!

All the best,

Peter

Peter, hope I didn’t mislead you. The days of reasonable, simple construction here, such as singlewall are long gone with the newer building codes. On our street there is 1 property for sale under a million, an owner built, unpermitted 1 bedroom structure.
The 20 acre parcel I visited this weekend with another neighbor, $1.3m and this is an offgrid ag property.
County says our house in excess $2M value, and of course the taxes to match.

Dishwasher has ran water out air gap last 2 times. Even after I ran a wire down the hose and it seemed clear. Then I took hose off at dishwasher and proved it was clear into disposal and hose wasn’t clogged. Tonight I watched as it ran, and it drained fine.
Not sure what caused the issue before. Wife said disposal wasn’t full of stuff.

Govt taxing people out of existence.
Haven’t seen Smokey in awhile.
BB and snagglepuss are in garage tonight with pellet stove going. 22° now.

No air gaps here. If that bit of code silliness has made it to our locale, it seems no one is following it... yet.

I understand their purpose, but I'm surprised anyone would want one on a dishwasher. It seems they must create more problems than they resolve, in that application.

34F and cloudy @ 00:15, calling for a low of 33F overnight so not much change.

Refilled hopper and 1 suet feeder which were both empty, also scattered some seeds for the ground feeders. Black bird mob returned later.

Got the Dickinson and 2 Small Sugar pumpkins cut up and put in the oven after that:

IMG_3961 copy.jpg

Then did some more cleaning out in the garage while they baked.

Cleaned off Delta chop saw and took it downstairs to the utility room, think I will just move the next load of 2 x 4's directly down there ... less handling that way.

Refilled food and water bowls for the feral cat which I still have not seen.

Processed the pumpkins after they cooled, from the Dickinson:

IMG_3962 copy.jpg

Both types were more orange in color than the Mammoth Gold ... and each had a distinctive taste.

The Small Sugars didn't seem particularly sweet to me, guess we'll see how they are once they are made into something.

Dickinson = 6 lbs. 12 oz. in 6 containers.

Small sugars = 3 lbs. 15 oz. in 3 containers.

Got the Dickinson seeds separated and drying on a paper towel on a cookie sheet, still working on the seeds from the Small Sugars.

Between the Mammoth Gold, Dickinson, and Small Sugars, I bet there's over 300 viable seeds for each variety.

Still have to label and date everything.

May call it a day once that's done.

Hope everyone had a decent day ... (y)

Good evening all. Cutting back on my conversation while trying to catch up. 42ºF for the start, partly cloudy sky, breezy. Moderate wind, brisk gusts, sky went to overcast, then back to mostly cloudy, and high temp was 59ºF. Made coffee to start day, grief Share, office work, bike ride and finish working on friends walker. Did get a nap in.

Govt taxing people out of existence.
While they do it under the authority of government it's actually our own neighbors who are taxing us out of existence. Our local taxes are the biggest problem. School, local community college, city, Emergency Services Districts, County, Road District, etc. We personally do not have MUD, or HOA taxes/fees to contend with but we still have 7 different local taxing entities dipping into our pockets. Very often the money they are spending is for egregiously extravagant things in my opinion. Most often very little real need for a lot of the spending. It's amazing how once people get access to the public funds and can spend at will how they go wild with other people's money.

good morning all
looks to be a little warmer today, highs around 48.
I'm headed down to rv to see if any snow needs cleaning off, this warm weather should melt it.
then headed a few minutes away to go visit my handicapped friend who lives nearby.

and then food shopping on the way home. Have four holiday events in next week where I'm either making dinner or
cider and munchies, so need to do some serious food shopping this afternoon. i'm going to make that home made mushroom
soup again and this time will put some thinly sliced smoked sausage in it for flavor. This friend is not a vegetarian so I can do that.

Renting a cottage in this expensive area has saved me in some ways from taxes.
My suburban track home prior to moving to NC was about 8k in all in taxes.
When I went to NC, my 23 acre farm with big house had all in taxes of 1800 annually.
This is why folks retire there. But if you have kids, better send them to private schools because that
tax level will not support quality education. The local elementary school in Washington NC was rated 2 out of 10, just
over the accreditation limit.

when I asked a meeting of several local supervisors down there why the taxes were so low, and they couldn't afford better schools and police.
I was told immediately no way they would raise taxes, or they would not get reelected and that was what was important. Sad actually.

poor schools often track with poor medical facilities.

Coffee is brewing. 30° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 40° with some afternoon sunshine. Costco shopping went good. Not even any close contact. Then went to a plumbing supply place to pick up a order for neighbor. Next stop was for gas and a few items at Sams Club. Gas was $2.52 per gallon. I had a order from Sams Club that was to be delivered by FedEx. Go a message saying package had been delivered. But no camera showing any motion. Called Sams, They sent me a photo that showed it had be left next to my neighbors mailbox. While go to get it one of my neighbors saw it at mailbox and delivered it to my back porch. Sams Club refunded my $70 for the package. Back to house work for today.

Good morning TBN folks! Its breezy here in Houghton MI and 32 here now, so much wind, most boats came off the lake.. As seen in our forecast pasted below, its back to near normal for the 5 day forecast.
Yesterday I got the 6x6 atv to the dealership who replaced its power steering unit, but found the steering module (electronic control) was not functioning.

Got a 2nd price for a 4x4 atv and found our local dealership was about the same.

Made many stops at various stores.
