Picking up the Mac PC from a check for virus infections this morning.

Good Morning
62° with a high overcast, sun peeking through the clouds. Supposed to clear and reach 80.

Yesterday’s trip was uneventful, a bit of weather off the coast, but nice at the Vineyard. Passenger’s daughter brought us Liz Lemon sandwiches that we ate on the way back to Philly. They got two thumbs up from us.

When I got home I made a tool to rotate the pins that the rotor blades attach to the hub on a 1930’s Pitcairn PA18 autogiro that my friend is restoring.

After dinner went to see another friend that had a seizure last Wednesday. He seems to be no worse for the wear, but they are still doing tests. There was some serious concerns because he has had heart issues and has an implanted defibrillator.
Hopefully he will come out the RC field and visit with the old guys this morning. I offered to pick him up, hopefully he takes me up on it. We used to fly RC together, ha an antique airplanes, and retired as a captain from United, so he certainly has the interest.

First thing on the agenda though is breakfast with the professor, then I’ll let the day take on a life of its own.

Good Morning Again,
Scott, good luck on the ham exam.
Thanks Drew 🙏
For some reason, the license rank of "Novice" stuck in my head, not "Amateur". I think the license numbers even started or ended with "N" to denote Novice. I wonder if that has changed?
WinterDeere, yes you are correct about the N. My first call sign in 1966 or 67 was WN1HLP. I lost the N designation when I passed my General exam about 9 or 10 months later. WA1HLP then. Then a year after that I passed the Amateur Advanced exam. I left the hobby in 1970 or 71 and got interested again earlier this year. Quite a layover 😉
I applied for a vanity call sign in early June of this year, W1HLP , because it had the same suffix as my old call sign and it was available. So now after almost 60 years I’m going for the Extra class license, hoping it’s never too late. The hobby has changed significantly in the last 50 years. But it’s still about contacting other operators around the country and world 🙏

Scotty, I'm sure you'll ace that exam.
Billy, thanks 🙏

Mostly, we never did get that rain 🥲

Have a great day 🙏

Good morning, the low is 58 and going up to 66°F. Wind NW 2 mph. Mostly cloudy.

I will get the conveyor out today and adjust the chain, grease it and get the motor running again. It has high test gas in it (zero ethanol) so that should make it easier.

That is my day planned out.

Have a safe day all

BEF, sounds like a wonderful trip. Sugarcreek sounds like a neat town.
That is a big Amish and Mennonite area, lots to do, lots of great places to eat. We stayed in a local motel my sister always stays at, it had recliners in the room, private patio out back with view of the farmland, and no more expensive than any other place.
IMG_2954.jpeg

Had breakfast next day at Boyd and Wurthmann in Berlin, old place where the locals eat.
The Amish now use a lot of E bikes, they are everywhere. Don’t see as many horse buggies. Our motel had 2 plugged in charging at the front door.
We drove by 2 of the bicentennial barns, painted by a guy I know. One in every 88 counties.

a fine haul of blackberries this morning, shooed the bees away
this is the largest US variety, berries get size of thumb if left to fully ripen
lots of pectin, not good for someone with diverticulitis, but the flavor is like
blackberry wine

trying to find some energy but none to be found

76F and sunny @ 11:45, heading up to around 84F for the day's high. Low this morning was 45.9F.

Still no rain ... :(

But some chances starting this coming Monday and running through Saturday.

US Drought Monitor release this morning indicates that as of this past Tuesday we have moved from "Abnormally Dry" to "Moderate Drought".

Much worse to the south and east, with much of Southeast Ohio in "Severe Drought" and portions of 3 counties in "Extreme Drought":

Midwest | U.S. Drought Monitor

Got all the winter squash that had been picked rinsed off and put in the greenhouse in the dining room to harden off first thing yesterday.

Then two more sections of the two 12' round posts coated with asphalt.

Waited until late to start working on the post holes for the shade.

More progress made, with very good progress made on one hole in particular where the auger bit caught and started screwing itself in.

Have run into a large rock in another hole though ... used the digging bar to try and break that up but no joy. Let the PHD beat on that one quite a bit ... seems like it might be loosening up some ... but it's unclear just how big it actually is.

Watered 6 holes with 2 gallons each before knocking off for the day.

Woman retrieved Her car, I haven't taken a look at it yet but supposedly no leaks.

Agenda for today:

Probably hit the post holes real quick while I still have some shade.

Then going to spend some time watering the garden ... definitely eggplants, kohlrabi, and bell peppers ... maybe cukes and winter squash. Beyond those have a look and see if anything else has a chance of making before first frost.

Might try and get the last of the pressure washing in front of the garage door done in preparation for the cold patch.

Other than that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Thursday ... (y)

Hadn't been 24 hrs since we got home, my wife wanted to take a drive. :ROFLMAO:

Went up to lower PA, just down the road from our saturday breakfast place, to a BBQ place. We had coupons burning a hole in our pocket before they expired. I'd been there before, she hasn't. She liked it and wants to go back. Good food, friendly staff.
Main reason for trip was to buy some Ginger Gold apples just down the road back in MD, so picked up a half bushel. Large apples, she likes them for eating and apple sauce.
Went to another orchard and got more goodies, like a yellow watermelon, frozed unbaked pie, mum and other stuff... Then Grocery store.
Yard needs mowed, but will wait until tomorrow..

On our trip, after we left the amish country of Ohio, we high tailed it west, passing by the former Longaberger basket headquarters east of Newark Ohio. It sits empty with the parking lot growing up. Someone was going to turn it into a hotel but never did.

I figured I had made at least 1300 pots of coffee in my Cuisinart coffee maker, which now has
quite a collection of mineral deposits building up like stalagmites on the inside.
so I ordered the exact same one, and just had my first cup of coffee from it after running a pot of
water through it to clean it out. Tastes fine, looks way better, and now I have the vinegar out and am going to town on the
"old" one and will clean it up as best as I can. It will be a backup pot and I might use it in the rv.

ran a load of wash and walked ever so carefully up and down the stairs, making sure not to overdo my back.
am finding keeping back brace on helps.

back isn't great but I'm feeling much better after that cup of coffee.
trying to wash out residual of all that tracing chemicals I had to drink.

fun researching some of Buckeye's photos, did you know the Longaberger company had a Billion dollars in sales in 2000?
that's a lot of baskets. Owner died and company died years later.

I think visiting all 88 of those barns would be a great quest.

I run a bottle of this decalcifier thru my espresso machine every month... at least when I remember. Back when I ran a regular Bunn A10 pour-over machine (similar to your Cuisinart drip, but with an always-hot boiler), I'd run a bottle of this thru just once or twice per year:
