this is for Spike
long before the A10 Warthog dominated the skies, mechanics in WWII came up with their own
version. I bet the airplane slowed down when they pulled the trigger on all those 8 50 cal guns.
the noise must have been amazing even with headphones

missiles didn't come into play until 1958
The air-to-air guided missile saw its first combat use in 1958
when Taiwanese F-86s used AIM-9B Sidewinder missiles against Chinese fighters.

I really wish my father or uncle had talked more about WWII and being in the South Pacific.
Father was in intelligence in China and he had a favorite picture of him sitting at his war time desk

Good Morning to all who Celebrate! From the 3rd Terminal in O'Hare. Currently 77 heading to a high of 86

It's been a long day already and it's about to feel a lot longer. Up at 2am after some fitful sleep, a short drive to Harrisburg followed by a mad scramble: checked bag was overweight so sadly some of the goodies got the heave ho. Security was quick both times so far. Flight into Chicago was uneventful:
IMG-20250919-WA0009.jpeg

I think I'm going to end up gaining a day by this whole arrangement, but someone better versed in traveling will have to answer that. Took the expense to rent a hotel room for a few hours to freshen up and take a nap. So now the long haul begins.

Yall stay safe out there and be well!
Prayers for all ailing and recovering!

My day started with "something is leaking under the sink". over 2 hrs to go to Lowes, not find what I wanted but got something that might work, then decided to try Home Depot across town, and got the same piece that was leaking. A flex sink drain that can bend to hit the trap. Once home, had it replaced in about 5 minutes time, and no leaks so far. It lasted 28 years, so hope I get another 28 years from this one.
On my way to Lowes, cop coming up way behind me with lights and siren going, I turn into the turn lane for Lowes, he turns off lights and pulls in behind me, once I go around the bend, he passes me on the left and lights and sirens on again until thru the next light. He pulled into Lowes parking lot with just lights on, but didn't see him after I parked to see what was up.

Need to mow once it dries some more.

More on the trip:
Day 3, after leaving the amish country, went to Springfield IL. around 500 miles and over 8 hrs. Got there earlier than anticipated, so went to the Lincoln homestead NHP just so my wife could buy another tee shirt from there. We were there in 2013 so didn't take the tour again, but she did pose in front of her cousin's house. Abe Lincoln house in springfield.

Stayed at same hotel we stayed in 2013, a bit more run down but functional. Lady at desk recommended Motorheads for supper, was an excellect choice. A Rt 66 landmark.

77F and sunny @ 11:45, calling for a high of 85F for the day. Low this morning was 53.4F.

Weather Babe on the 23:00 local news announced a big change coming starting this Sunday. Says the pattern will "flip" from dry to at least having a (small = 25%) chance of rain every day in the rest of the Ten Day ... accompanied by cooler temps, with highs only in the 70's ... (y)

Ground under the weed block fabric under the arched trellis ... very dry:

IMG_3870 copy.jpg

Cloud cover increasing this afternoon.

Did hit the post holes first thing yesterday and stuck with that for quite awhile. Very slow progress as I seem to be encountering lots of larger rocks around 3' down.

Did make some good progress on another hole though when the bit caught and started drilling itself in. Got that one drilled near to full depth.

The outside cutting edges on the 12" auger were rounded ... so later in the afternoon I brought the Kubota around to the garage after I refueled and swapped the inside cutting edges with the outside ones.

This didn't seem be any sort of a magic cure however ... still having to use the digging bar quite a bit to make small gains.

After that I figured I better get started on the watering. Watered the winter squash on the west side of the arched trellis 2 gallons each and cukes on the east side ... which are still continuing to produce.

Then I moved on to the bell peppers ... got the reds all done and then got started on the green bells ... which I will finish up today along with the eggplants.

As I was watering I went ahead and picked the stuff that was ready to be harvested:

IMG_3871 copy.jpg

And picked the first Hubbard Golden which was on the ground:

IMG_3873 copy.jpg

That weighed in at 5 lbs 14 oz.

The green tomatoes I picked and put in paper bags are ripening.

No bats sighted for the last 2 evenings.

Agenda for today:

More work on drilling post holes.

More watering of the garden.

Hopefully get that pressure washing in front of the garage finished up.

Beyond that see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent TGIF ... (y)

great veggies RS. And dry ground for sure.
Tomorrow morning I water, don't want to lug that heavy pail out to the furthest bush right now.

ran some errands and stopped at little roadside restaurant in Titusville NJ along NJ's River Road aka Rt 29
much easier drive than coming up PA side past Ken's neighborhood.
decided to treat myself because my last radiology report came back saying no cancer, a disastrous back, and something in my
colon that is sending me to colonoscopy doc next week. Of all the tests
that one is pretty unpleasant due to prep but clearly it is a test that can save your life.
Often colon stuff can be excised pretty easily if caught early.
It's always the "catch early" part that is in question.

but it sure could have been worse...so I ordered a remarkably unhealthy bacon cheeseburger with fries, and a diet coke.
It was delicious and I couldn't finish the burger or the fries, but left content heading home.
I have dinner tonight at brother's and I am so not hungry right now...nothing like a lump of beef in your stomach.
no appetizers for me.

what I will try is a few of my blackberries. I picked more this morning and have half a quart of my own blackberries to take
for dessert so the grandkids can put them on their ice cream. Just won't tell them had to wash off some
bee poop first...figure it's all organic. I was lucky not to get stung, the sweetness of the ripe berries were bringing them in.

good time to be a bear. Boo jr would love munching on my blackberries.

/ Good morning!!!! #211,549
68F steady wind from the north bit chilly tomorrow AM might get our first frost Sunday morning...another day no rain. :(

Good day at work, boss very much please with my report but not the findings,as he said "facts are facts.
Afternoon stop at Kubota for fluids filters another stop for cleaner, old wallet got light afterwards.

Plans for the evening just going to numb it.

Enjoy your evening all.
.................................................
While setting on the deck last evening and Boo laying on the lawn, vehicle pull into driveway sat idling almost min, guessing Boo decided they weren't welcome headed down to investigate maybe to let them know no trespassing, vehicle left before got his chance...was interesting to watch Boo action.

Got yard all mowed up.
Pretty evident that trucks been driving down along my creek again, pulled the SD card on my camera, and sure enough, they had multiple trucks down there again. They had already pulled a cable when I blocked off access from the road, but they came in via my neighbors. Even a couple kids with them and a cat. Appears they used a sxs to move the log I placed to block access, as this truck never went back out the way it came in and another truck came in from the left side which was blocked, and then it departed in that direction. They did put the log back in place. One guy looked at the camera, surprised it didn't get stolen.

Thomas, can I borrow Boo?

/ Good morning!!!! #211,551
Boo, our first watch bear.
I wonder if he will become a local attraction.
soon busloads of kids...

nice dinner at my brother's, always fun to observe the 11-14 year olds,
the girl always good for some teenage angst and too many "likes" in her words.
Which is a challenge considering her grandmother was head of the English Dept at our local high
school. The 14 yo brother whose birthday is next week got his present from me a little early.
A 2700 degree IR heat gun. He and my brother promptly went out to measure the Corvette's cylinder temps, brake temps, anything they
could with it. He seemed delighted and it was a tool his father did not have either. When I explained he can measure a/c temps at registers, etc
his eyes lit up with and what else? His grandmother's pottery kiln, and the.....48 bucks well spent.

got everything done I needed to today and back brace helped a lot.
tomorrow I need to water and mow but otherwise no special plans; fine with me, has been a tough week.

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 5.4C and it's presently 16.9C, clear & calm. There was 1.0mm in the gauge @0900.

Yesterday was interesting. The parishioner event at the Town Hall turned out to be a gathering of the local sewing/quilter club and I turned out to be the only man amongst 40 women. :D Still, my fellow parishioner was pleased to see me. I left after a coffee and an hour had passed.

Next was a stop at the hardware store for a few items. Yes, to get me over the A$48 needed to achieve "GOLD STATUS" (whatever that means). Once I got home I reviewed the receipt and realised that they hadn't charged me for a number of items, even though I saw them 'beeped' into the register.

So I drove back and let them know, paying for the missed items. They asked why I came back and I said that it would've screwed up their inventory. Besides that, it's a small town and I'm glad that we even have a hardware store.

Anyway, nothing planned for today & that's just fine. Take care all.

Coffee is tasting very good this morning. 54° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 78° with mostly cloudy skies. Got windows washer before sun gmade it too hot. Trip to Menards went good. Got all on my list. Until I got home and realized I had not picked up the package. Made the 5 mile trip back for it. Got tractor out and cut grass in back field. Rest of the day was spent on back porch enjoying a nice cool breeze. More of that today along with shrub trimming.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
looks like a nice Saturday today with sun and highs in upper 70's.
not starting out well with both back and neck hurting, plus a major headache, so on go the soft collar and my
back brace and that helps a little. Hoping I will limber up a little and be able to mow the lawn.
Hard to get enthused about stuff when you hurt and I keep trying to avoid the pain pills.

had an interesting reaction to the mealy worms I put out for the birds.
The birds haven't eaten them, and they are attracting yellow jackets. Not what I wanted at all.
I put some in the feeders, a mistake apparently, now I'll just put on the ground for the bluebirds and ground feeders.

coffee tastes good, headache slowly fading
hope you all do something fun this weekend.

58 going to 81. Maybe a pop up.

Sounds like Boo is earning his keep.

Lubed my tiller and finally tilled some of my food plots...had been waiting for the big rain we got earlier this week to bring the soil to proper moister level. Planning to put in some winter wheat, oats, winter peas, crimson clover, etc. today.

Welding new battery boxes onto a trailer, and doing some rust removal and painting work?

Yeah... not very fun. :ROFLMAO:
well....you have a nice cool day to do it and I bet when you are done you will have a big smile
from transforming something nasty to nice
may no bugs fly into your fresh paint...

looks like some free entertainment today, for a good cause, might be worth tuning in:

Good morning folks. A breeze is blowing here this am and a chance or rain for the whole weekend. Its near 60 now and our high is predicted to be 68. Never got my trailer deck re-coated since the sun was hardly out all week :(. Our falls are usually warm and dry. Today we are cleaning out the little camper we have and put it on the market. Not the best time of the year to sell but we'll give it a try. With the camp we are buying, we no longer need it.
