Good Morning to All who Celebrate! 81° going to a high of 85° this is the summer weather I can tolerate! Sunny and clear.

A not-so-busy weekend, which was what I needed. Dad wandered out front with the pole saw, so grapple and tractor got tapped for the cleanup. At least those branches won't hit my truck anymore. Then it got tapped for moving some stone dust to fill in a pothole between the driveway and the road. Otherwise just some mowing. Mom wanted to go golfing, but I declined. Everyone who's ever swung a club would be out trying to enjoy the weather. When she collared Dad for it, that was what awaited them so they decided not to wait for a tee time.

I especially like this time of summer, when it's cooling off and sliding into fall. Now that I'm older and don't have to worry about the headache that is school that is. Goals for this week are as follows: Still need to tag the trailer, just haven't found a good time to get away and do it. Wednesday I have a dermatologist appointment to investigate the lump/s on my arm/s. Most concerning one is on my left forearm that's about the size of a robin's egg. Family history tells me they're just fatty deposits, but better safe than sorry.

Wag, It appears there's a powerline coming up the mountain just for that house, so a few more poles wouldn't have meant the end of the world. But perhaps you're right since it doesn't look like any maintenance has been done to the pole on the property.

Morning all;
Well heck mostly a wasted morning here, I was going to get out early before it got hot to trouble shoot the electrical on my SxS. When I finished breakfast I looked out off my deck and saw a hawk on the ground, it appeared to be injured and unable to fly. While I was watching it and contemplating what I should do an adult came down to it and was trying to get it to fly. So I decided to call DEC to give them a chance to rescue it. What a farce, finally got a call back from them, just call this wild life rehabilitation center. Still haven't heard back from them, of course it's only been 3 hours. They have moved a bit the fledgling is now up on a work table in the back yard and the adult up on a shed roof keeping an eye on it.

I was taking the picture through the window screen so not the best quality.
Would be nice if someone cared for the fledgling but it may become supper to a bigger predator.

Other then that a few things to tru and get done and accomplished today, upper 70's means I won't do much outside.

Trip to PO this morning as tracking indicates delivery.

FWD drive shaft has come off Sophie’s BX again. Can’t find the pin for the universal so need to pick one up at the Dealer. Somewhat a pain to install as I have to drop the midmount mower.

Happy Hour in town this afternoon.

76F and partly cloudy @ 12:00, heading up to around 81F for the day's high.

Headed out first thing yesterday with the Sawzall to attempt to free that Hubbard Blue, Woman was working on a pie from the blueberries She had picked but took a break and followed me out to assist.

Surgery was successful and the patient was moved into Recovery:

After that I started working on getting the Bush Beefsteaks in the grow bags watered and fed. Got all the ones that had catch pans under the bags done - maybe 6 or 7 - and then mulched them with straw. Need to see if I can't locate more catch pans for the rest of them.

Made an effort to observe the summer squash vines at the base for evidence of squash vine borers while I was doing that. Most of them looked ok but I really need to take a closer look today when I spray them with Sevin.

This was the worst one:

Once that was complete I moved the Cub and Kubota over around to the west side to work in the shade.

I went inside for something after that and Woman said She didn't know what we were going to have for dinner. I suggested sausage dumplings with my homemade sauerkraut and She agreed ... partially because it would get another two 1 quart jars out of the refrigerator, freeing up more space.

So I got roped into getting the 'kraut out of the jars and into the pot and slicing and dicing an onion for the dumplings ... which I was quite happy to do since it's a meal I love.

After that I headed back outside and worked on raking and gathering up debris and loading it in the bucket on the Kubota over on the west side where we're planting the arbs.

Took that up and dumped it on the compost pile and brought down another bucket load of wood chips.

Woman ran to DG for some items, I went in and checked the pie which was in the oven to make sure it didn't burn. She returned shortly after that.

Adjusted the location where I attempted to auger the hole for an arb next to a maple and the stumps of the ash trees that we took down. Was able to get another hole drilled with some difficulty (auger hung on a root and tractor stalled)

Woman came out several times while things were cooking and we had a pleasant time just sitting in the shade and talking in the late afternoon/early evening.

On Her last trip out I had Her bring the battery-powered chain saw and I cut down the smaller tree (pine) leaving the larger one (a spruce ?)

Took the screened compost I had dumped there and built a dam around the base to catch water and then we worked on spreading mulch around it.

She started watering it and eventually announced that chow should be ready and headed inside while I continued the watering, probably giving the tree 12 - 14 gallons total. Emptied the Water Buffalo in the process.

We'll see if it does any better now that it's not competing with the pine for scarce resources.

Headed in for dinner after that.

Once I was finished with dinner I came back out and moved the Cub and the Kubota back over to the garden and got the remesh fence put back up.

Got Water Buffalo refilled.

Then picked another 1/2 dozen okra and brought those in after sitting for a bit and enjoying the cool dusk as it got dark.

Had some blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream for desert which was delicious.

Got another week's worth of meds doled out before I hit the rack.

Only major item that must be done today is taking the trash up to the cans at the road. It's recycle week so those need to go too.

Beyond that I'm sure I'll find something to get into.

Bird feeders need refilled, etc. ...

Nice lunch with daughter. Kind of upscale place, good service and food. Older white couple with black female guest always attracts a lot of attention and stares. Wife's drop dead look still works and they got busy looking elsewhere. When kids grew up they had a lot of respect for that look and usually did correct whatever they were doing wrong

I was in the same boat, all of my 18v tools are Makita (except a Milwaukee fence stapler, which has a 3D printed adapter to use Makita LXT batteries)

When I was looking for a cordless grease gun, Makita didn’t have one yet. DeWalt did, but I wasn’t going there.
I settled on the Milwaukee 12v one, and have since gotten other Milwaukee 12v tools. I’m quite pleased with it, and second Frits’ suggestion for the Lock n Lube.

I actually can’t see any need for a heavier 18v grease gun after using this one for years and several cases of grease.

If it works for you, that's all that matters!

I have a few zerk locations where the locking fitting keeps me from routinely making a mess. Love the locking fitting.

I have a few locations that benefit from 10k psi grease guns occasionally, even when the fittings are clean. (The bottom two joints on the FEL come to mind.)

Yesterday was a day of puttering. A little bit of time on the Lazer, which after getting my hat and headphones knocked off, reminded me that I really need to do some trimming along the hedgerow between the pastures and the pond. The good news is that the headphones don’t land on the exhaust or under the mower. (Don’t ask how I know that those are possibilities), which is a good thing as they are Bose noise canceling headphones that I stream Spotify to while I’m mowing.

I have resorted to using a helmet with blue tooth and phone answering to protect from branches while mowing around trees which is often, The Locust trees with thorns can really hurt. Turned out to be a good investment

I do have a similar Stihl helmet, but it has only passive headphones for hearing protection. No bluetooth.

After the circus left this morning, got busy on the deck. got blocking down the middle, the one post moved, that I had been contemplating for a long time, the matching post on the other side installed, most of the joists taped, got out the laser and lined up to the existing deck, and got 3 deck boards installed. Getting there a little at a time. Did use up some old wood from the old deck for blocking, which was my temporary surface to walk on coming out the garage door. Did the "step on the end of a not fastened down board" trick, but caught my self before anything serious happened. Usually I put a couple screws in the temp boards to not let that happen, but moved them around a bit today.
never got to mowing, that will happen another day. No rain in forecast.

I have a Dewalt grease gun that I swear by. Also have a lock-n-lube fitting but it doesn't fit all my nipples so took it off.

Instead of using calcium chloride to kill off the grass, I am going to use salt and industrial grade vinegar. Good old rock salt. Way cheaper and does the same job.

Well, this morning as I walked into the shed to record the rainfall amount... THERE THEY WERE. Hanging in plain sight from a hook on the wall. Not behind or under anything.

I was close to giving up and buying a replacement pair, too.

That's about it, take care all. <snert> It's now clouded over with light rain.

So they didn’t hide like my tape measures did once.
Half of my jobs are trying to find the tools I knew I had somewhere.
I did get my old sawzall back in service with a new set screw, used it again today.
Still need to buy some more solid edge trex for deck2.

Good evening all. 66ºF for the start, overcast, 1 1/4 in rain in gauge, light breeze. Light wind, sky cleared quickly, and high temp was 88ºF, HI 94ºF. Made coffee to start morning, oatmeal for breakfast. Bike ride, cool off then mow back yard which had 2 weeks worth of grass to mow, found 5 balls. nap then ICVFD board meeting. Will getting back to typical Texas weather Wednesday. Sinus drained a lot less today.
