on the exact same road I traveled last week up to NY, my young friend with his
very nice GMC with the baby Duramax was coming home pulling jet skis yesterday, was up on Lake Champlain,
and two deer ran out on 287. He could not swerve due to traffic.
thankfully he had a truck and could drive it home.
deer on an 8 lane interstate are bad news
resulting in the usual big red smear some place
and lots of broken plastic

am guessing it likely broke one small mounting part on that expensive
headlight and he's going to max his deductible for sure.

becomes a very expensive animal and you don't even get to eat it.

Wife wants me on a diet to lose some belly fat....she wants me to go low carb, but not totally carb free.

Putting the new blades on the old Deere LX5 cutter. Need to suck out the old gear lube in the gearbox and put fresh.

Been researching oils lately. Producers have reduced zinc and phosphorus to help catalytic converters last longer. But many motorcycles have the cam lobes push directly on a shim pad on top of the valve. These are referred to as "flat tappet" applications. Mobil 1 / Walmart is still selling a 10W-50 oil that has higher levels of zinc and phosphorus. So, that is what I'm putting in the FJR 1300 fairly soon. They recommend 10W-40, but this is Texas and I used to use 50w for road racing, so I will go with it. If you want higher Z & Ph levels, you have to buy their racing oil by the quart which gets pricey.

Son wants me to take him to the gym for a workout.

Good evening all. 68ºF for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Light wind partly cloudy sky, thunderstorms in DFW, high temp was 87ºF, HI 93ºF. Help setup, attend, tear down chapel, breakfast with group, did some laundry, fish club work, visit with neighbors, hauled down branches to pick up point, got stepdaughter's trash put out, and some cleaning ladies prep.

got the small shredder blades done, fresh GL5 lube in gear box, promptly went and cut about 3 acres of fairly deep grass, had to go kind of slow because I only have 25 pto hp to deal with. Grass has not been cut since last year.

My best friend lost his 3yo female Golden Retriever. We are guessing a cotton mouth. Got her twice. She held on with vet care for 2 days. Vet thinks maybe a big blood clot of dead blood let loose inside her. We are all sad. He's tore up.

We both need to knock down the tall grass areas outside our yards.

I killed a mama scorpion with a bunch of babies on her back. We also have a crazy amount of wasps. Mosquitoes are on the loose too.

had a good night's sleep, feel like I got caught up

chilly morning but clear weather going up into 70's today and up to 90 in a few days.
the heat is coming in.

I have an appt with body shop that did minor repairs to my Lexus before it was sold to me.
they apparently redid the front bumper because when I bounced up that road to the NY cabin, the seam
where the fender meets the bumper popped out. Needs a clip or some adhesive, not sure what. Pushes back in fine, but
not good it can come apart.

worked hard on veggie garden yesterday, pulled out half the old radishes and replanted with spinach.
found more crawling bugs so gave garden another dose of diatomaceous earth.

46.8 low so far high of 78 Smokey skies nose running again never stops. Done with antibiotics leg healing slowly. Sugar too high my fault.

Resume work this week rain in forecast Friday before then warm but cooling off for weekend. Have gut feeling summer locally not to hot just about average. Maybe 92 for high for summer. Will see I guess.

Got some shrubs planted yesterday still more to go all replacements of ones that died.

looked over the "feet" of the four columns holding up my to be built pergola,
and they have four 3/8" holes in them for ground attachment. I ordered these rods which
if I drive in slightly off angle, should hold the two column pads down adequately on the gravel areas.
Other two pads go down onto wood beam buried in ground.
Pergola has no sides so shouldn't be much windage. Waiting for my young friend to come help me build it.
I have a nice hand sledge for this.

I ordered some 3" heavy duty wood screws to attach the two pads to wood, with built in washers.

Phil, real nice gift for Buppies. When I was a teenager, always wanted a TR6. My big sister had a Spitfire for a while, before I had a license, but I got to drive it once.

Buppies, we have those flying elephants here, too. Glad Precious is about to come home to you and Holly.

Been down in eastern North Carolina last few days. My wife and her brother sold their family farm. Met the new owners...2 real nice related young couples, one with a 14 month girl and the other with her first baby due in August. They were having a blast riding the farm on their Can-am UTV. We spent all day Saturday cleaning out the stuff stored in the barn, and they helped. My oldest son helped, too. A real dirty job with decades of dust, etc. I could have filled up the Smithsonian with the snake skins.

Added in a nostalgia tour on the way down on back roads visiting small towns in Virginia and NC where our relatives once lived, and the 4 cemeteries where they are buried. Lots of memories for both of us.

Stayed in a nice 100+ year old house near the water in Washington...they have really restored that town since I last walked the riverfront a decade or more ago. A real gem now with a tourist vibe, restaurants, craft breweries, and lots of parks. Della and I walked several miles looking at the beautiful flower gardens in the historic district, and at the boats/yachts along the boardwalk. Della had her first encounter with cats, and even had a deer cross the road right in front of us shortly after sunrise yesterday. Bonus was buying gas at 2.55. Ate lots of seafood.

Came home to grass to mow 10 feet high. Maybe an exaggeration.

am glad Wngsprd enjoyed Washington, the waterfront on the Pamlico River is nice.
not sure but might be heading there with rv this Fall. Summers are very hot in Eastern NC.
My two lady friends there email me and say when will you be back? 8 hour drive, not so easy any more.
one friend is 91 and never know how many more times we can do this.

I think Ron must have helped every neighbor in his area by now, they are lucky to have him nearby.

7 years ago today, food pantry volunteers came and helped me harvest potatoes
several years later we got smart and I hired a neighbor who had a real potato harvester.
it had just rained before this planned event but sandy soil dries pretty quickly.
hard work for mostly seniors
two young helpers were Mormons on a work mission, who I knew would have a ball with my utv.
those two picked up all those heavy boxes.

Shopping in North Bay today. Pay for tractor repair and get a smaller portable shelter (10X10X8') for the fuel tank.
