Ken , sorry to hear about your wifes cousin ! Prayers to your wife and family !

Don, looks to be quite a project ! By now you must feel like a coal miner ! 😉

Work today, at least the rain is gone so I won’t need a rain coat ! 😀

Paul and Dennis, everything looks cozy around the fire guys !

Hope all have a great day ! 🙏

Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 4:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 59F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

A beeping smoke detector was my alarm clock this morning. Nothing like climbing to the top of an eight foot step ladder when you're half asleep to get your day started off on the wrong foot. Didn't even get a year out of the old Duracells.

Got all the lights in the house working yesterday, but still need to cap off some unused wires with wire nuts on the next trip. But I'm definitely out of the woods on that project now.

The turkey came out nice and moist and is resting in ziploc bags in the fridge. Definitely need more practice at carving.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

yes, nothing like warm feet by the fire
and I bet Popgadget's are made of super soft alpaca
grown down at the alpaca barn

my electric fake woodstove in living room is remarkably realistic
except it doesn't feel anything like the real thing

need to buy some apples this morning nearby and then have cardiologist visit this afternoon.
today's high is 54, perhaps this afternoon I'll get some outside time. Depends upon how late doc runs, they already
pushed back my appt from 11am, saying they were overbooked. I'll make sure to take my Kindle.

I made a turkey dinner last Saturday and have now had turkey for four dinners.
I am so turkeyed out...
And I'm not a ham person.
one of the best turkeys I've had was a deep fried turkey made by my boss at the time,
Richard Merritt of Merritt Yacht Brokers in Ft Lauderdale. He would have a cookout for all the staff
and first time I ever saw turkeys being deep fried in peanut oil.
It looked dangerous as could be, easy to burn yourself but it worked and the turkey reminded me
of one of those pigs you slow cook, where everything just falls off the bone.

I can only imagine how many grams of hydrogenated fat came with the turkey.
my overweight boss finally died of heart disease.
no wonder

She settled on some blinds at HD, but unfortunate when we got home, it looks like a no go. Seems no one makes corded blinds anymore. The window heights are not conducive to fully opening a blind as one cannot reach that high. Motorization is the other option. Looks like more shopping is in order.
That is unfortunate. I have a cordless Levolor blind that has already been replaced once because the bottom won't retract back to the top. The warranty is only good for one replacement, and now the replacement blind is doing the same thing. I've had zero problems with the corded blinds I installed at the same time, so I was planning on corded blinds for the new house. The motorized options I've seen are obscenely expensive, and they're new enough I wonder about their longevity. I'm hoping to take advantage of another Black Friday deal, so need to figure something out pretty quick...

Wngsprd, that looked like a nice hike you did the other day. If I looked at the right trail, looks like one I might try. We will be down that way this weekend.
Both geo units running ok yesterday. I had pellet stove running last night, so downstairs didn’t run last night. Upstairs keeping up at 42° outside.
Y’all have fun with white stuff.
Hope to beat traffic today, but might take back roads and stay off interstate. Takes longer but more enjoyable, and I’m in no rush.

travel safely Dennis

rain coming in tonight, will be raining most of tomorrow but then clearing up towards end of day.
Will be a nice day to sit by a fire. I'll be at my nephew's farm in New Hope, the one right next to the railroad line so I expect
to hear lots of train horn blowing
2 long 1 short 2 long
intersection ahead

yup, that's mighty close to the RR tracks, I wonder if his kids have ever put pennies on the track

I have felt your pain! I want to meet the SOB who designed smoke detectors to find out what he did to make them decide the battery is low between 11pm and 6am. Save for one instance, I have never had them do that while I was awake.

Morning all, 44 going to 54 and sunny.
Have a head cold, so a bit out of it.

Drew, when house shopping here we looked at a house by the tracks. The couple were metalsmiths and put big metal sculptures by the tracks. The house wasn't right for us, but he had a fantastic shop I would have loved.

Back to the day job,

Be well,

More lights up, the Santa Sleigh is about 8 feet wide. Pic from upper back deck.

Couple months ago I woke to the cheery sound of the smoke detector around 4AM.
IT was in the bedroom hallway. Role out of bed all groggy grab a chair to stand on, climb up and take it down.
Pop the battery out.
It's still screaming. What the HE-double hockey sticks.
There's a second one in the main entrance close by.
Climb up, take it down, pop the battery.
Still screaming.
I'm finally fully awake and realize it's not the smoke detectors but the CO2 detector just below the first smoke detector.
Pull it out of it's plug.
Still screaming. No serviceable battery to pull out.
Threw it out the back door and went to sleep.
When I got up it was still going.
I got the 12 gauge and pumped a #8 into it.
True story.

If you park at the small parking lot at MM 39, it's a short hike south on the AT to a short spur/Passamaquoddy that has a real nice rocky overlook, then not too far to get up to the cliffs, which is the best part. Then Stony Man loop is further south. Stony Man is the 2nd highest peak in SNP, a volcano 570 million years ago. 😁

39°F and cloudy this morning, got up to 50°, and is now starting to head back down to the upper 30s overnight. Looks like we'll get some light rain this evening as well.

The guy on the radio who studies meteors suggested this morning that we may get some snow on Saturday, perhaps even a little accumulation. Not ready for that just yet.

Happy Anniversary, wngsprd.

I got the 12 gauge and pumped a #8 into it.
Who doesn't love a story with a happy ending.

Good afternoon, gents.

Had one that didn’t want to stop screaming, solution - 5 gal bucket half full of water. 🤙🤙🤙

now it wouldn't be likely to be close enough but
if you put that shrieking alarm in your log splitter
and slowly squeezed it into silence, that might be both entertaining and effective...

only problem with them is they likely have something toxic in them so you don't want that in the dirt.

Good (Thursday) morning. Overnight Low of 15.4C and it's presently 16.9C, overcast with drizzle/rain. Gusting wind. There was 21.3mm in the gauge @ 0900.

Successful 'into town' session yesterday. Yet another Wine Faery delivery at the PO and a great Veteran's Coffee catch-up. All groceries on my list purchased, although a couple of substitutes were required.

What with the rain, I decided to do a major towel dhobi in the arvo... and I'll carry on with dhobi today.

That's about it, take care all.

I finally have seemed to find a few minutes.....

I/we are not doing good.... me emotionally, Dona physically.

She has been in the hospital since last week. A simple ultrasound and MRI has turned into our worst nightmare.

She is in the critical care step down unit, maybe for a couple more days. After that it is still a big unknown..... hopefully will get a real diagnosis soon.

I am trying to not fall apart, it's taking all I have....

It might be a while, but I'll get back when I can.
Ted, You both have our prayers. Like Don said, you need to be strong for her (and I say to be doting too). Prayers for her medical staff and for divine healing. Thank you for sharing. We care.

I’ve completed 78 trips around the sun. Who’d a thought. Maybe go into town later for a nice dinner.
Happy belated birthday David, hope for many many more trips around the sun.

A1C today 6.1 better than before I’m happy
That's great! Keep it up....or should I say keep it down?

26 F cloudy low 30's for high, couple hours snow flakes in the air than turning freezeing rain rain storm ending around 6pm...not complaining we need wet badly before ground freezes.
Is it better if the ground is moist prior to freezing? Wonder why?

My wife and I went up to Shenandoah NP and had a fun anniversary lunch at the Skyland Lodge. Then a cool hike along some cliffs on Stony Man and Little Stony Man up to sunset. Got back late to a very lonely and hungry Della.
Happy Anniversary you 2!!!, I'll bet Della got over it fast when y'all got home.
Last night learned one of my wifes cousin died. This is one of the cousins we visited in California over the summer. Cancer sucks.
Sorry to hear, condolences. I hate cancer.

These "treatments" are danged pricey. LOL. You really cannot see with a good LOS into the Milk House, but.....women...ya know...
true words there I tell ya....true words.

I have felt your pain! I want to meet the SOB who designed smoke detectors to find out what he did to make them decide the battery is low between 11pm and 6am. Save for one instance, I have never had them do that while I was awake.
Never do they go out in the day. Never. I did have one that waited until 5am recently.

Don, you are doing all the hard work to make that house nearly perfect.....but never will be perfect.....women...ya know!

RNG, hope the wiring gets figured out. Sorry about the smoke alarm. I guess it is hard to get sleep when you're retired....with 2 houses.

Popgadget, letting the dogs rest by the fire is a good way to end the day.

It is still warm here. 77F at 510pm. Might be 53F and windy in the morning.

Traffic is bad, stores are crowded.

I've been off all week. Helped my buddy who's building a new house. It is 95% done, my son and I were the first to sleep in it. Only cold water, propane is not hooked up yet. It was nice and quiet. Very tight home. We helped him get the water hooked up, turned on, turn on valves and check multiple times for water leaks. Only leaks were the toilet tank/bowl gaskets needed 7/16" deep socket to tighten down a little bit. Also, the disposal under the sink does not have the dishwasher hooked up yet, so that leaked a bit. I installed his fridge in place for him. I wanted to hook up his wall oven/microwave combo, but he wants the electrician to install a plug. I was going to use wire nuts and black tape. Not sure if there is code involved, so we left it on the floor.

Visited some old friends down in my hometown. One of my old friends gave me a boat. A Glastron Carlson C512 Metric series, 1981 model. I rode in this boat many times around 1985-88. It basically has been in a covered boat storage since then. It has an inboard Alpha Mercury marine 4 cylinder boosted to 140hp. I remember it doing about 55mph when properly "propped". Another project. Besides all the mud dauber nests, it needs an "imron overhaul". Trailer needs sanding and painted. I believe the top of the boat (deep sparkly flaked red gel coat) can be wet sanded and sprayed with some 2 part clear to bring out the luster. Seats need recovering. Might need to replace fuel tank. When parked, he sprayed some oil or something down the spark plug holes and turned it over a few revolutions without the plugs. Buddy already bought all new tires and wheels for the trailer. He's looking to find a clean Donzi in the 20' range used. I still have Don's old "tinny" boat to get going too. But this boat has a title and everything needed to go to the lake legally.

You could lower the smoke detector to a more user friendly level, you know.
The turkey came out nice and moist and is resting in ziploc bags in the fridge. Definitely need more practice at carving.

Happy Hump Day, folks!
You need a really sharp carving knife. Don't forget the sharpening steel.

I will find out the results of the blood tests on the 4th, just cholesterol and A1C. My weight is down to 224 lbs. This is a good thing. I am shooting for 200 by next May.
