I did notice a lot of flies outside of that bedroom on the siding. Not sure why so many outside on the siding, and not at other windows.

Is that a south facing wall?
north facing, none on the south. Need to fix the hole in the screen, then see what happens.

Coffee is done brewing. 46° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 75° with mix of sun and clouds. Changed plan and repaired a section of paver bricks that settled down about 1". Causing a trip point. That was enough for the day. Got my voting ballot finished. Will drop at Drop Box while shopping Thursday.
Tree trimming has been put on hold. Got drone out and took some pictures of tree line instead.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Does everyone have long early voting lines?
By 2 pm today 137,000 people have voted early in Texas
I heard yesterday that over a million have voted early in North Carolina. We are planning on going today. We've only voted early once, and there was no line. We like the tradition of going to the polling place and seeing folks on election day...but with my mom still in the hospital, we think it is prudent to go now.

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 2:15AM. Sunny skies. High 77F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Up way too early.
What are you all doing for music?
My baseline source for music is a collection of over 1000 CDs, to which I'm still adding. I play each one once to rip it to the SSD on my main laptop, then I'll manually sync it to my phone. Then overnight it gets automatically synced to the file server and from there, my travel laptop. I browse for new music on YouTube regularly, and most of the time buy used CDs on Amazon. I still have one XM/Sirius subscription for a portable player I use on the motorcycles, but refuse to give them another $10/vehicle a month for the van and car since there's only one of me and I can only listen to one at a time. I won't be renewing, and instead will just listen to podcasts and music off the phone. I don't have any other streaming services, just not a fan of maintaining another subscription, but that does seem to be the way the world is going. It certainly is for video content, as much of the new stuff is only available via a paid for stream, and sadly, NetFlix no longer distributes DVDs. I'll stream music from the phone in the car, van, or motorcycles, or from the file server in the house, picking an album, genre, artist, or playlist, or sometimes just randomly picking from the whole collection. At the old house, I had an amplifier, AppleTV, and speakers set up in each room I wanted music, and controlled the stream via the phone via an Apple player app. At the new place, I've only got that set up in the living room and office so far. I can run a pair of wires out to the garage pretty easily from the office, just haven't gotten a round tuit yet. I'm debating on putting speakers on the back porch, as I don't want to annoy any neighbors. Then again, several of the neighbors don't seem to mind annoying me, and I'm not a big fan of Latino umpah music.

Our place is taking overflows on stuff that should bring a lot of money for the in laws rather than cut throat yard sale prices. I had one person who was hagling me about 5 dollars on an American Flyer double sled. Hey...was tired and just done at that point and would not give in. Was offered for half the internet rates. Our pricing was extremely below market with 5 to 10 dollars built in for haggling and of course...people like to bargin. LOL.
Same here. Among other things, I'm dumping the steel and plastic pallets I welded up for firewood, asking $25 a piece. Just the other day I had a guy offer $20, which I declined, as at $25 I'm almost giving 'em away already. Last night a guy IMed to say he'd take 'em both, and could be here at 8:30AM today. He'll get them if he actually shows up, otherwise another guy says he'll send is dad over to pick up one. I always tell people first one here with the cash gets it, no holds, no checks or e-money. I'd say maybe one in three of the initial contacts actually results in a sale. Most of the Facebook Marketplace inquiries are canned 'Is it still available' clicks, and I state plainly in the ads such inquiries will get no response. In a weak moment that I do respond to those, I always get ghosted. I also control when they come by to pick something up by only providing the address when they say they're on their way over. In a month or so when I'm completely out of the old house, I'll have a yard sale at the new one to get rid of whatever hasn't sold, and take whatever is left after that to either Goodwill or the dump. Man will I ever be glad to be done with the haggling! Hang in there, Mike. It only takes one to make a sale, and the patience to wait until they wake up and realize they can't live without something you're trying to get rid of.

Geeked around most of yesterday installing "smart" wall outlet switches on some of the more frequently used lamps. I've had pretty good luck with the Lutron Caseta stuff, and lousy experience with Eve and Leviton, neither of which can seem to maintain a Bluetooth/WiFi connection. I also like the Caseta "pico" switches that fit in a Decora footprint switch plate and give a conventional push button control that goes next to an existing gang box (just replace the plastic switch cover with one that has an extra hole), or can be placed stand alone on a handy table or counter.

A little more of that today, along with packing for another trip back up north, maybe leaving tomorrow, but more likely Thursday. For right now, though, I think I'll try to get a little more shut eye...

I'll wait for election day and go down to the polling place to vote and visit.
me too
same guy or his wife have been working polls a block from my house for 40+ years.
In a super deep voice that everyone knows is just his, Clifford welcomes me with a hello Drew.

I really liked the mechanical machines. These fill in the dots stuff seems inefficient.
just as long as our chads don't hang...

remember hanging chads?
yet another election uproar

A hanging chad is a fragment from a punch-card ballot paper which has not detached fully, resulting in an incomplete and therefore invalid ballot paper. Punch-card voting machines require voters to punch holes in their ballot papers in order to indicate their voting preferences. The small discarded fragment of paper is called a “chad”. “Hanging chads” result when ballot papers are not completely punched through and the small piece of paper or card prevents the ballot paper from being marked down as a definite vote for a particular candidate.

Hanging chads were partly responsible for the unusually high proportion of invalid votes recorded in Florida during the 2000 US Presidential election. As Chads weren’t completely punched through, many ballot papers recorded people voting for fewer than the minimum number of candidates required. The US invested heavily in electronic voting methods such as voting machines, but still faces significant difficulties with elections.

Morning all;
Nice calm morning here, a nice 47F here projected to reach 77 this afternoon, a brief Indian summer today and tomorrow then back to fall.
A sunset picture from my kitchen window facing east yesterday;
sunset 10-22-24.jpg

May get going today and replace my rear brakes on the 19 RAM, per the dealership that changed my oil the other day the brakes are only 2 mm left, they also thought I should have the air filter changed, which they would be happy to do the paltry sum of $912.
air cleaner 10-20-24.jpg

Did that yesterday air filter myself, had to vacuum the acorns out of the filter housing, damned rodents.
Ordered some fancy pretty drilled and slotted rotors and pads from Power Stop, that's on the current agenda for today, we shall see.

All stay safe, get well and enjoy.

RNG you are never going to run out of tunes, that's quite a collection.
Thanks Buppies. Headed to Salem this morning, will go to Walmart first to get some tylenol and my last batch of chopped fruit for breakfast.
hard to believe I'll be home day after tomorrow.
I'm ready for my leaves, though I bet lawn guys have it all cleaned up.

45 degrees in Blountville TN in Rocky Top Campground.

Buckeye, that trip sounds wonderful. Sounds like all the best of the West.
if you aren't sure about your camper tires, factor in cost of a new set of tires before you leave on a long trip in the mountains like that.

I preferred the old mechanical machines myself also, throw that lever over to close the curtain behind you, flip all the little levers down then shove that lever to open the curtain and tally your votes. A good solid sense of accomplishment. Not fill in the dots and feed it into a document feeder for it to scan or kick back to try again.
If I recall correctly the hanging chads were from those ballots that sat in holder and you had to poke a hole in your selection and supposedly some people didn't press hard enough to penetrate the paper completely.

45 working up to 80. Kyle, yesterday we had a 40 degree swing.

Scott, hoping your wife feels better, and you haven't caught it.

Beautiful pix Ron, Buppies and Lou. Lou, I hope that $912 included the brakes, although that's still high.

Ordered new tires for the Tundra...need good traction for all the snow we're gonna get this winter...and going off road a bit in the mountains. Been happy with the current tires, so just another fresh set.

Decided my wife needed some fresh air so took her up to climb a mountain with me and Della yesterday...great time, beautiful colors, chipmunks and squirrels everywhere to delight both of them.

I treated her to an early dinner and wine flight on the way home at a restaurant associated with a vineyard named "Well Hung."

Good morning, the low temp is 53 and going to a high of 72°F. Wind SE 7 mph. Sunny!
Today is the last day of indian summer and then we get back to more seasonable temps.

I'm not sure what I will get into today. Probably not much.

Have a safe day all

Good morning TBN! 46 this morning with a high of about 80. No rain in the 7 day at all and low will be 50s with upper 70s and 80s through the whole forecast. Rain could be ab issue before long. But I will take it for now. News just said it's been 20 days since rain. That was Helene!!
Wife worked with appeal to FEMA and they will have an appraiser out in a week or so. The rep added gas for the genny and water to our request! They had offered to put us in a hotel until Dec. I don't need all that. Just give me some $$$ for the bridge. And point me to a decent steel tank.

Nice weekend visit with niece and her hubby. A few good days of hiking catching up and football. They headed back to Ohio yesterday and arrived safely. :)

Went and cleared a few of our downed trees yesterday but that was about it for working. Took it easy for the rest of the day. I may try and tackle my air compressor again today. And my throttle.

I too have a lot of music. Near 800 0n vinyl and another 500 or so CDs. Decent turntable with an Onkyo receiver and I usually just have TV on or listen to Itunes! I don't want to get rid of them because I doubt they will bring much.

Colors are starting to pop but I think it won't be a stellar year due to Helene blowing everything off.

Well the coffee is about gone and the sun is starting to rise, so I should get dressed and find out what the gorgeous day ahead has in store. Have a great and safe day!!

I think I'll be locking the rv door tonight for sure at Dixie Caverns campground.
I always like to check out the surrounding area
great big jail on other side of Roanoke River.
bet it's going to be noisy with all these roads and trucks on 81 but it's convenient.
next stop will be super quiet.

A question for all of you, been getting a pop up from bit defender recently on this website;

"The page https://qvdt3feo.com/sync?nid=33&gdpr=0&gdpr_consent= has been detected with suspicious activity. It is not recommended to continue browsing this website."

Anyone else seeing this?

Good Morning
51° high in the 80’s and clear sky, the new grass is loving this weather, and all the water I’m giving it.

Thanks for all the replies about music. My collection (and tastes) run from Little Walter to Pink Floyd to Willie Nelson to Pokey LaFarge to Social Distortion to Guy Clark, to the Dead to the Sons of the Pioneers to Bob Wills to the New Riders to the Stones to John Prine, Steve Goodman or David Bromberg Not to mention the more mainstream classic rock like the Allmans or Moody Blues or Fleetwood Mac. That should give you a rough idea.
After trying Spotify for one day, I think it might be just the solution for me. The subscription cost will easily be made up by not having to digitize and supply hardware to go the digital route on my own, or build the furniture to store all the media and set up the turntable if I went that route. What ever I do, I’m not going to get rid of anything, it will all be stored in the shop.
We did move a few pieces of furniture, and the wife is starting to fill the closets, so we are getting closer.
I stopped by the township building to see if my CO was ready, or there were additional hoops I needed to jump through. It was all printed, but needed to be signed, so no more hoops. They told me that I could start moving in if I wanted to.

On to today.
Gonna start with breakfast with the professor. Then come back home and clean up all the left over building materials and take the dump trailer full of the remaining trash to the dump/recycling center.
The manure bin is also full to overflowing, I’ve sorted of pretended it didn’t exist (like a lot of other chores) while focused on the OFH. But I think after the trash gets dumped, the dump trailer will be hauling manure to a neighboring farm.
Then it will go pick up a load of mulch.
Someone told that staying busy keeps you young, I hope that’s true because I sure keep checking days off the calendar. It’s curious that while I’m growing new grass, I haven’t had to mow in weeks. Shows what the irrigation does.

It is a PITA to digitize vinyl. I have done it a few times with Audacity. It takes about 5 times longer then just putting the album on and you lose sound quality!
