Finally unloaded the pellets into their 'spot' in the garage. I was surprised when I unwrapped the pallet.... Lignetics pellets! HD only listed them as "premium pellets", no name.
The white bag lignetics? THe lignetics I bought this year are in a mostly clear bag.

Thinking about those a bit more mature than I and living challenges.
I wonder if someone is maybe missing an opportunity.
What if some agency offered a matching service. Older person living alone has need for companionship and assistance, available space, but perhaps tight on finances. Younger person has need of living space, is a responsible person, limited income.
Agency could effect a matching service with defined oversight (to protect the mature client) for a nominal monthly fee paid by each, based on situation. Each situation tailored accordingly as far as financial contribution vs services. Surely there are enough potential clients on each side of issue.
Agency could be local Office of Aging, a home care service, rental agency, a dedicated service, seems like a flexible situation.

One of my considerations for a caretaker when Sophie is ready is to contact the university and offer the studio as a housing alternative for a student with flexible mix of rental/work trade. Similar concept could work just for general assistance.

Properly vetted I could even see this in select homeless situations.

Oversight for protection of the elder paramount.

PopG, what is the take off and landing roll on the little plane? Why can't you land it at home?

I didn't do the lights today, Junior had to go to town for some more bread and such.

The oil filter I ordered on Wednesday came in the mail. We only empty the mail box about once a week unless I am expecting something important. He grabbed the mail on his way back.
A genuine Daedong oil filter part # E6201-32443 cost me all of $13.95 + shipping $18.oo + 13% tax.
Postage was more than the filter.

Clear bag. Actually called "Lignetics Group" as the manufacturer.
I sort of remember reading that Lignetics bought up a bunch of other pellet manufacturers during the pandemic.

I have a Graco airless sprayer. Got it when we built the house. It has seen many many gallons of paint and have to say I love it. Even lent it out a couple times to trusted friends for big projects. But boy it can be a PITA to clean.
When we repainted the house, I got the roller attachment. Boy was that sweet and no over spray, very little mess. Still a PITA to clean. I’ve only used latex, but I can see it would be great for stain too.

Successful day! Got the remaining mums planted, drip reconfigured, and bed re-mulched.

Then noticed that the front tire on the tractor was almost flat..... must have caught the same issue as Fritz's tractor! Looked around the tire, nothing obvious. I filled it, don't hear any hissing. So, a project for tomorrow .... dismount it and check with some soapy water.

I bet that it picked up a cactus needle when I cut the fields. Probably a very slow leak.....
I'm hoping a patch will work....

Definitely a very nice day outside, 70°, light very cool breezes.

Now time to start prepping for dinner. We are grilling boneless pork loin, smoked diced potatoes, and green beens.

very interesting chat with rv next to me, part of some big group.
Turns out they are all part of some German motorhome shipping company that sent 21 employees to the US for five weeks. Folks next to me own a "caravan" so all these folks are seasoned rv'ers from Germany. Small world...
They are headed for Yosemite today for two days.

chores done here, just chilling out til time to go
hopefully Sunday morning traffic will be ok

oops, forgot to post

safe and sound in Santa Cruz CA harbor marina campground.
not a fun drive through Oakland, even missed sign for Richmond Bridge but immediately knew I had to double back and was able to. Saying a few choice words at myself.

you look around in Oakland in all directions and there is this horizon to horizon urban sprawl, lot of traffic, lot of Teslas zooming by, and then rt 17 coming down through some mountains to Santa Cruz. wow was that road windey. Fell like I've been on a half hour long roller coaster ride. Hard driving trying to maintain speed with constant switchbacks and very limited sight distance. couple of things fell over in bathroom, no harm. More harm to my neck and arms, got a real workout today.

marina is pretty big and has more powerboats than I thought, and larger.
looks to be up to 45 footers.

folks next to me with rugged 4x4 diesel ram looks like they go far afield.
saw her walking dog, so next time I went out left two dog biscuits on their outdoor chairs. Hopefully the dog has been good.
spreading some doggie love...

Must be something in the air

Took the tire off the tractor and loaded it into the van for tomorrows trip
Cleaned up the treads on the wheel studs with a 16 mmX1.5 die
Then straightened out a heavy gauge metal bracket that was damaged.
The U shape of the bracket was something of challenge with the press but a combination the press and a large pipe wrench got it back in shape

Happy birthday to Mrs Kyle

Frits, you are certainly a braver man than I hammering with your left hand.
do you have a power tool alternative?
we all heal more slowly as we get older, not a lot of bouncing back as before
walk it off means hope you feel better in a few days...
Have air hammers etc but hammering the tire in place over the rim the last few inches for example is best done with a large hammer. The rotator cuff injury does not heal up since only surgery will restore it and the surgeon recommended against it. Black smithing is a challenge with the left hand also but will practice and may get better at it

Looking good Lou.

Unexpected activity today. My 7 month old Vissani freezer quit freezing. Luckily we had been watching as it has been noisy a few days and caught while everything still frozen, only top shelf a little softer. Fortunately able to find space. But of course, warranty repair already closed so call tomorrow.

All is good until the murder. My wife's friend and co worker was killed years back with a similar trusting arrangement. After they shot him in the back they walked up and unloaded the gun into his back.

The title is a little misleading because the loved one was the nanny and the ranch hand was the nanny's son. A "loved one" was not a family member.

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.3C and it's presently 18.8C, partly cloudy with [once again] a howling wind. I took the flagpole down yesterday in anticipation. It's predicted to calm down late this arvo.

So I won't be able to get at the two tree trunks that need felling. That's OK. Safety first and I'm retired... there's always tomorrow.

Not much planned for the rest of the day. That's about it, take care all.

Yep, something in the air, or lack thereof.

My 22 year old front tires are very weather cracked and aged. One was low. had to pull out the air can to take air out to it. Got enough in it to drive it near the barn to finish filling.

I will plug a tire whenever there is a puncture, using the cord plugs from the outside. I have had to take it down and put a plug/patch internally. Not fun. I don't have a good set of large tire irons.
