71F and clear @ 22:00, heading down to around 70F for the overnight low.

Decent day, was pretty warm out there this afternoon ... high was 88.7F.

Got a couple of bills scheduled for payment first thing.

Checked the bag on the Japanese Beetle trap out front, still not full. Will give it another day.

Got the Lock-N-Lube coupler installed on the grease gun and moved it out front to grease the loader.

Dispatched The Woman down to Harbor Freight for a garden hose quick coupler set.

Given the heat, I decided to spend some time in the shade in front of the garage planting some more seeds:

IMG_3329 copy.jpg

Woman worked on her petunias.

Got the aquarium stand leveled and the board for the top shelf put on and put the 4 square pots with now-trimmed petunias on the shelf.

At that point the Kubota was mostly in shade so I greased the loader. Lock-N-Lube worked great ... (y)

Cleaned off the loader valve and was able to isolate the leaking fitting - a 1/4" female flat face coupler. Swapped it out with another one I had retrieved from the shop and Volia ! ... no more leak at the loader valve ... 🤞

Also cleaned/degreased the motor for the Hamilton Beach blender.

Moved the Kubota out the way and hooked up the dump cart to the Cub.

Loaded up the pots with seeds in them and got them moved around back to the shelves and got them watered.

Woman had broiled up some brats and baked a couple of potatoes so I stopped for dinner.

After that I got the rest of the green beans planted.

Final bean count was:

42 Cherokee Yellow Wax Beans

123 Slenderette Green Beans

Then watered the summer squash I planted the other day.

After that I took the watering can and watered all the holes where I had planted beans ... just to make sure they didn't dry out.

Once that was done I ran up to the shop and locked up up there.

Emptied out the phosphoric acid out of the Hudson hand sprayer and rinsed it out after I got back down to the house.

Time for an iced cream bar on the couch.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

Coffee finished brewing. 67° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 82° with cloudy skies. Got brackets mounted to SSQA adapter. Using a 1/2" bolt. Installed on tractor. Drove over to neighbors and tested on his Pallet Forks. ( i do not have any SS attachments yet). Adapter fit perfectly. Need to deburr brackets before doing final attachment to adapter. Will not get that done for a few of days. Grocery shopping this morning. Then Dr. appointment in afternoon for my foot.

63 heading to 88 and the humidity returns.

Sodamo, not often we wish our stuff breaks/fails, but it was fortunate for you...glad the fix may be forthcoming.

Ron, glad your SSQA works perfectly. What attachments will you use?

Cool enough yesterday to run the chainsaw and clean up some junk trees as well as cut a small amount of firewood. Still have some branches to pull to the brush pile.

good Wednesday morning all
63 going up to 87 today, another nice day
foodshopping this morning, then
a visit up to Popgadget's home to take him some cucumbers
the next batch of cukes goes to Ken, he gets the deluxe veggie package for
helping me with that screen door.
then later over to a friends for dinner

bit of mouth soreness and remaining headache from trip to dentist yesterday.
this might hurt for a bit
yup

Ron, I never liked my bucket grapple, always wish I had gotten a brush one.
Already had a regular bucket, so the bucket grapple never added much, sometimes got in the way.
I made mistake of buying super heavy duty Long bucket grapple that weighed a lot and too much out front on my Kubota.
though when I put that Long grapple on the big Massey, it was unstoppable. Still would have rather had a more open grapple.
grapples save your back...
nice job on the quick attach mod. I envy your fab skills.

Drew, I have had 2 buckets for my tractor since I bought it 24 years ago. Dealer gave me a bent bucket. I straightened and reinforced it. Then added the grapple clamp. Has served me very well. Bucket that came with tractor is still in very good condition. Both buckets have their place for projects.

Good Morning
62° with a high of 85 expected today under clear skies.

Yesterday, I managed to get the mowing done with the Lazer, get the radiant heat manifolds pressure tested, mount the boiler on the wall, get all the meat out of the smoker, shred the pork shoulders and pack it up. Still didn’t get to the little plane, that might have to wait until the plumbing is done in the old folks home.

This morning a plumber buddy is coming by to help with the vent lines and other rough in chores. I can only work until noon, then I’ve got to get cleaned up to go do a trip to Martha’s Vineyard.

Sounds like Drew is going to stop by this morning, he can inspect my progress when he drops off some cucumbers. Fair chance he will leave with some pulled pork as well.

Good Morning,
Vt, 58 to start going to low 80’s. Partly sunny with some clouds !

We have both our sons and families coming tonite I believe, so we have a bunch of stuff to get done before they get here ! Shopping being one of those things.

Yesterday I cleaned up the fenced area around our blue berry bushes and also took down a small maple over on the north border of the property for fire wood. That needs to be bucked up and loaded into the ATV and dumped behind the barn for splitting ! Grandsons may help out with loading the ATV with what I split and restack in the woodshed.

Also need to mow the lawn again and possibly set up the kiddie pool so the grands can splash around when it gets hot !

Paul, safe trip to Martha’s Vineyard! Very impressive plumbing project and am curious about how you went about sizing the boiler. I’m guessing by amount of sq ft area your heating and your zip code ! Also curious on the venting , I know on my Rinnai heater in my family room I vented it right through the wall ! They supplied a template with the unit for proper hole location for the vent ! How many BTU’s is your unit ?

Well better get moving here, and Drew I hope you enjoy your pulled pork and Paul enjoys his cukes! 😉😀

Hope all have a pleasant day ! 🙏

Good Morning!!!! 89F @ 4:15AM. Sunny. Hot. High 111F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

That router sled looks like a huge improvement over just a belt sander, Ken. Can you just flip the bench over and use the other side to hide the mistake?

The real estate listings for the new house showed an American flag flying out front, but the sellers took it with them, Don. In spite of requiring them, in the contract, to leave everything as pictured. Doesn't look like I'll be there for the 4th anyway.

There were two letters from State Farm waiting for me in the mail box when I got home yesterday, Drew. I haven't opened them yet.

Finally some light at the end of the tunnel, David?

Got away from Orcutt at 7:15AM yesterday, and noted that the north bound lanes of I5 were closed due to a jack knifed big rig. Took me a couple hours to get that far, but instead of checking traffic I made a big mistake and decided to just wait out the detour. Google maps reported a fifteen minute delay, but it took over two hours! CalTrans had traffic backed up for miles on the freeway, then the detour had road construction and more delays. What a mess. I almost missed my checkin time at U-Haul, which would have cost me another $75. Only one guy behind the counter and it took another half hour standing around watching other employees wander aimlessly around doing lord knows what. It was well over 100F outside and stifling inside the building as well. Needed a PVC union for a plumbing job so stopped in at HD, only to find the box for the 1" size stuffed full of 1 1/4" unions. That was enough to cause me to just abandon my shopping cart and leave, since I wasn't really sure of the size I needed anyway.

I was also more than a little concerned about the Thompson Fire that started just north of Oroville, CA at about 11AM. I passed under the huge smoke plume on my way to Chico, and there were lots of evacuation notices being posted. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get home, but winds were pushing the fire east instead of north. Hit a grocery store for milk and fresh fruit and got the heck out of town. No problems with road closures, and no smoke in the air at the house, either, but the plume was taking up a lot of sky to the south. The fire had grown past 3000 acres, and was threatening parts of Oroville's residential neighborhoods. I was starting to panic when I found a Facebook post to a live stream being put on by a fire analyst covering the fire. His take was that the winds would shift and start blowing south overnight, good news for me but not for people living in Oroville. I was amazed by the number of online resources this guy had access to, and very grateful he was sharing his expertise.

That news was good, but I was still pretty nervous. Enough that I got the 7x16 box trailer hitched up to the Promaster van and backed it up to the garage. Loaded the one motorcycle I still have here along with anything of value that couldn't easily be replaced. A few years ago I watched as the Dixie Fire ran over 26 miles overnight, and with nothing much left in the house, there was no sense sticking around to try to save the house if the wind changed direction.

By then it was starting to get dark, so I took another look south and this is what I saw:
ThompsonFireNight.jpg

The fire is less than ten miles away, and the shot was made at 3X, but I didn't expect to see the fire cloud from the back porch! In spite of the expert assurances, I didn't get much sleep last night, but this morning the glow is gone. No new reports since midnight on Watch Duty, but according to reports fire fighting resources are coming in from all over the state, including three VLAT airplanes.

So yesterday was pretty messed up, and today looks to be more of the same. I was gonna get some work done on the house, but instead I think I'll reorganize the stuff in the van and trailer to make more room and just get everything in the house and garage loaded so the house will be truly empty. Then tomorrow head south and get out of this heat and away from the fire.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Good morning, the low is 64 and going to a high of 70°F. Wind SE 12 gusting to 19 mph. Showers.

There is talk of showers all week. There goes my town run out the window. I wouldn't think twice about it IF I could use the Dodge.

I have three roofs to put on the three Shelter Logic portable SUV shelters, but no today. Too windy.
Still have the hut for the hose reel/fire extinguisher to make. Also still have the rear light to mount on the tractor. That might be a good thing to do today as I don't need a ladder for it. I can stand on the platform for the BH.
Maybe I won't do anything today. Dunno.

Drew, I think you are coming out on top of that deal.

Have a safe day all

Rigby and Della, getting up to no good
No good-- is that how puppyhood works? Endless energy always at the edge of trouble?

Keep those pictures of food coming-- looks enticing!

We have some unusual flowers that bloom every year. Large prominent orange blooms. Rigby inspected them, then chomped down on one, tore it off the bloom, and ran away. Puppies lol.

Today is the "cool" day at 97F. Pretty soon it is solid 100F+, going to 105F. Yikes.

Good morning! Here is my new made in America Annin Flag ready to go for the fourth tomorrow.

78˚F heading to the upper 90s. The heat advisories have stopped, I guess there would be a continuous advisory and people would ignore it so they are starting to save them for the extreme days. No rain in sight. Got one new lock installed yesterday but was having trouble with the other two removing the old locks. I have a locksmith coming out today to figure it out before I mess it up too bad. I know my limitations.

RNG how much longer before you are ready to list your property or are you going to "Sell by owner".
It sure is a relief to have only one property to look out for.
