Coffee is brewing. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 76° with cloudy skies. No work on SSQA yesterday. Did house cleaning and back porch time instead. Will get back at that project today.
Soaking up some sun.

good morning all
should be a nice sunny day in mid 80's today, starting off cool.

oil burner tech coming this morning to clean my oil burner, also going to get him to
change out the filter on the oil tank, which looks like it has never been done.
nothing like the smell of diesel in the morning...

I wonder what fuel oil will cost this year? Hopefully less than last year's 4 bucks a gallon

groan, no dentist filling yesterday,, you need a crown, another crown. I wonder how many I have.
torture session planned at 11am this morning.

Ron, you could make a fancy Western hat out of that squirrel tail! Clearly a well fed critter

That hurricane is worrisome to many, looks like it's headed to Mexico instead of Texas but might curve around?

50F clear sky low 80's for high.

Outside chores done E muffin time.
Plans for today...8 hours at part store afterwards haven't decided yet.

Enjoy your day all.

Good Morning
58°, sun streaming in through the bedroom window, forecast is for no rain and a high of 82.

Yesterday was productive, but I left a lot of boxes unchecked.
I got the boiler room back together, but didn’t hang the boiler, we made the Costco run, got meat in the smoker, but didn’t mow or start on the little plane. I did add a trip to the township building to verify that I didn’t need septic or use and occupancy permits to transfer the property to my son.

Today, I’ll pick up where I left off, but won’t start on the little plane, and will deal with meat coming out of the smoker this afternoon.

sometimes you look back and think what if...

never having had kids, I was a little freer than most to experiment with different careers.
The one I missed, swing and a miss, for real,
was owning a John Deere dealership in this town/area.

After I had left the insurance business because its success had literally stressed me out too much,
I wanted to follow my passion. My wife was all for it.
So I did a huge business plan, and sent off a request to JD for a franchise.
I had spreadsheets and I had a powerpoint and they were impressed. But....
They came back and said they absolutely would have given me one, the location was a longstanding lawn and garden dealer who retired,
but due to a complaint by the next dealer over, I was 1.5 miles within his contracted territory. They were a terrible dealership and finally
went broke. But they screwed up my plans to have a line of green JD's lined up on the expansive front lawn. I even had the
Solebury Lawn & Garden sign drawn up.

Swing and a miss.
Mickey Mantle only hit one out of three.
so I put that folder with the beautiful dark green JD 420 garden tractor
in the center away to never come out again.

so I bought the town's tiny Radio Shack instead. An old tv repairman who got an early franchise. I think they did more tags and title
work then they did electronics. Presentation was disastrous, piles of boxes everywhere, too hard to find things. Old tv carcasses piled in
one corner. Out all that went, but New Hope Electronics is another story.

I only thought of Solebury Lawn & Garden because my brother mentioned something this morning
So no wonder I'm on my third JD garden tractor now. An LX280, diesel 7 series and now a gas 3 series.
I look at the low end JD stuff in the Home Depot parking lots and wonder how those models survive.
Likely better than most of their competitors, always believe in tech DNA filtering its way down over time.

what I have now is functional and best for me. But if I could...I'd be back on that diesel 7 series.
very fine piece of equipment. It just felt great to drive.
I also own that Gravely rider so I have something quasi-commercial to compare it with.
That thing will never wear out.

I probably would have sold the tractors up through the 5 series.
A 5 or 6 JD tractor would do all the local fields, they aren't that big.
normal rotation, wheat, soy beans and corn.

the five years I farmed in NC taught me a lot, with four different tractors including that Super A.
I almost bought a new 4720 JD, the one Roy used to lust after, but bought the Kubota 5740 instead.
Having grown up with a B, that green paint is very familiar.

got to telling stories this morning...
thinking I might go take some cukes to Paul and check out his house getting built.
assuming I survive the dentist. maybe tomorrow

just memories of tractors never met

Good Morning,
Vt, 50 to start going to 78 ! Beautiful sunny day again, and last night was perfect for sitting out on the deck for sunset ! When the sun went down behind the mountain , it cooled off quickly!

Paul, that’s quite a hunk of meat there ! Should be able to get a few meals out of that !

Plowhog, sorry to hear about Rigby ! Hopefully he is well soon ! 🙏

I have some issues with my front porch roof, I believe I have some rot on the lower end. When we put this porch on I knew that I could have problems down the road because we didn’t have much pitch to it ! Ideally I would like to strip the the roof and replace the rotten scheathing and install standing seam. I have a guy coming out this afternoon to give me a quote. Kathleen doesn’t want me on the roof anymore, even though I’m pretty sure I could do this ! We will get a couple of quotes and go from there !

Hope all have a good day ! 🙏

Good morning,
54° now highs in the low 80’s and sunny today. Light winds and dew points in the low/mid 50’s should be a good day to relax and putter outside.

Did more yesterday than I planned on, the neighbor had the day off so he had raked and piled up the mess left by my trimming/brush cutting. I drove the tractor and he did the manual labor, took half dozen or so fork loads to the burn pile we share on the property line.

A trip to pickup groceries this morning so we don’t have to go near a store over the 4th, then relax in the yard. Muscle pull seems to be doing well so if I don’t do anything stupid (ya fat chance) and stay light duty a couple more days should be good to go!

Enjoy your day everyone
Stay safe and healthy

If you do, be extremely careful. I have several friends that have fallen off their roofs. Doing things like cleaning gutters, etc. We don't bounce as well as we used to and don't heal as well as we used to.

100F+ heat is coming soon and it's gonna stay. Yikes.

Seeing all these pictures of food cooking looks great. Please keep them coming! And some impressive gardens also. My wife showed me a large vegetable the other day and told me it doubled in size in a day or two. Guess she must have good soil in her raised planters.

Everyone have a great day !!!

Rigby is back to his normal spirits, thanks for all the kind words. A puppy is a lot of work but worth it.

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 4:45AM here in Orcutt, CA. Foggy early, becoming sunny this afternoon. High 78F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

Headed back up to Yankee Hill this morning to return the car trailer. It's 85F up there right now, with a high of 109F predicted. Got a txt from PG&E that there was a power outage there at 3AM, and another a few minutes later saying the power was back on. Not that it matters as the battery backup kicks in automatically.

Pretty smooth trip down here yesterday. The truck didn't have any trouble at all getting up the hill in 4WD, or in getting up and over the passes along the way. Traffic was light everywhere, and I just stayed in the slow lane on hills so no problems there, either. No cooling or any other issues with the truck; it didn't even use any oil. I'd replaced the ball joints 100,000 miles ago, and it needs new ones again because it's wandering around in the lane, especially when turbulence hits it. Something for the new owner to deal with, and to keep me on my toes on the trip back north.

Not too much trouble unloading the car trailer yesterday, and it was perfect timing that the neighbor across the street pulled into his driveway just as I was backing the car trailer up to the side gate. His extra eyes were a huge help, as were a few shoves to get the van rolling off the trailer.
vanagonShadyGlen.jpg

Put the truck and trailer back on the street, unloaded the truck, and called it a day. Got another mess to clean up in the garage trying to figure out where all the Vanagon parts will go, but it's a huge relief knowing that there are no more large, heavy items that need moved, and no more dealing with U-Haul, except to return the trailer this afternoon.

Sheesh, it's only Tuesday...

55 degrees going to 85. Low humidity continues. Sweet.

Plow, sorry about Rigby...hope he doesn't find a way out or over your fence. Della is already challenging some vertical obstacles that previously worked. I had to read up on foxtails, too. Yikes.

Ron, never seen such a pitiful Blue Jay...give him a blow dry or a towel. 😁 Nice job on project.

Had a very long hike yesterday with the great weather. I'll post a couple pix.

Even though Shenandoah has closed trout fishing due to low stream flow, the waterfalls were still pretty. Here are 2 of them.

One area I hiked through is named Berry Hollow...now I know why...thousands of ripe red raspberries...I ate my share, but left plenty for the bears...of which I saw plenty of tracks.

I recently saw a youtube video of someone doing standing seam, or maybe the snap lock seam roof, and the metal was textured, so it wasn't as slick to walk on. I know when I did my barn roof, 4/12 was slick to walk on, especially after it got a little dirt and dust on it.

Recovery day from paint and flooring (with help)
Wife bought a new desk for her office. It's in a flat box that would take 2 men and a boy to move. Thank God for the forklift. I'll open the box on the lift and ant it into the house piece by piece for assembly... with her help. Wish me luck.

Prayers for all silent or spoken our Country
wondering when I'll have to drag a mower down again..
I wonder also if that foxtail is different than what we called foxtail on the farm. Our foxtail seemed rather smooth and soft, I don't recall anything sharp on it.
My brother mowed more of the back pasture yesterday, including the steep part I was dreading. All that's left is top easy part. Then it's just one more pasture/woods area where the back spring is. More buckeye tree's there, and some nice hickory trees. That part has some steep areas also.
Son's cat still standoffish, she will venture from his room to the top of the steps, but won't come down. If we go up, she runs back to his room to hide under the bed.

not much planned for today. maybe i'll mow some. Just been spending time with my oldest son.

waterfalls do look nice and refreshing. That meat will look good today also...

Good luck scootr.

Morning all, 68 going to 86 and sunny
Spent time yesterday using the router sled to flatten the table.
Towards the end, had it dig in, just me making a mistake :-(
Will look at options to fix today.

otherwise just status quo. Son still having fun in the city.
Dog having stomach problems again, so back on home cooked chicken/rice.

Rigby and Della, getting up to no good :)

Be well,

Good morning! 78˚F heading to 98˚, sunny skies no rain in forecast, looking for disturbances in the Gulf to give us some relief.

Took some pics of the furniture we will not be utilizing to the consignment store, they will take all. While I was there bought a vase for the living room. My push button locks came in but I will need to get them re-keyed. The pool has some calcium on the tiles that need to be cleaned and the front fountain still needs to be cleaned and put in operation. If I get one done in this heat it will be good. Yesterday the truck temp showed 101˚ without heat index.

Found a made in America Flag at Walmart to replace the faded flag the previous owners left and the new flag does look so much better.

Won only 2 of 5 games at cards last night, there were about 10 people missing, during the Texas summers they take off to cooler places.
