funny I'm the guy who's trained in estate planning (CFP) and have little need for it, with no children.
And currently no real estate. That makes it very simple. In my case, on purpose.
My local brother, the accountant, is my executor. Once a year I remind him what my passwords are and where the money is.
He lives ten minutes away. Intentionally simple. Why, in part, I moved back home from NC.
He and my siblings sure aren't getting much out of me, so this is a chore for him, one he has done several times now.
we are only two years apart, who knows who will go first, dreadful thought.
if one knows better, which I do, just unfair to stick your brother with a mess. Just like most of you don't want to leave a legal
mess for your kids. Mental illness and drug addiction are simply realities of modern life.
So please don't leave a chunk of cash to a known addict.
if you own a multi-generational farm held in a family trust, or a great big factory, well, get thee to an accountant, CFP and lawyer occasionally.
particularly if any chance of relatives contesting your will.
and as we get closer to 80 we need to start cleaning out the proverbial barn
