Good morning!!!!

70° now, low 90’s and humid today. Nothing much going on here, spent much of the summer waiting for the rain to stop and things to dry out so mowing, weeding and stick picking up could be done. Now September is here it’s waiting for it to cool off so mowing, weeding and stick picking up can be done 🙃.

Prayers for those in need
Stay safe and healthy

Coffee is done brewing. 63° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 72° with cloudy skies. Thunderstorm passed thru about noon. Dropped another .3" of rain. Dentist appointment went OK. No fun having a old filling ground out and new filling put back in. Grocery shopping this morning. Then mow grass in afternoon.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good morning! This is one of the warmest mornings this Summer at 82˚F heat index of 87˚.
This will be another 100˚+ day.

ERCOT (The Texas power grid) was asking everyone to save energy yesterday evening because: “High demand, lower wind generation, and the declining solar generation during sunset led to lower operating reserves on the grid and eventually contributed to lower frequency, which precipitated the emergency level 2 declaration.”

They just averted rolling blackouts. Love the reliability of that green energy - not.

Today is my once a week lawn irrigation day. (before 7am or after 7pm only)

Kilroy thanks for the YouTube video that shows the devise connecting to the existing handle, I never saw my Mother use it and could not figure it out. Do you connect it to get it out of the oven, or stove top use or when would you connect it?

Nice turkey action pic Ron!

good morning all
last of hot hot days, up into mid 90's today.
at least I'm not mowing lawn so much, nice to get a little break from that.
And more rain due in this weekend and next week.

FIOS coming this morning to hook cottage up to fiber optics.
Because Comcast is cable, Verizon has to run another line into the house, charged me 100 bucks for that.
clearly a fraction of what that service call would actually cost with a bucket truck.
Big issue for me is making sure they don't screw up my home land line.
Plus I have a school board zoom meeting this afternoon and that sure has to work.

new office chair came in late yesterday, need to put that together today
hope you all have a nice day

71 outside this AM, heading to mid 90's. 89% humidity.
Rain chances all but evaporated for today, maybe tomorrow. Storm front moving through.

It's getting really bad, drought wise. Looking at the landscape you can really tell the difference.

Hope all have a great day today. Be safe. Take care of yourselves.

You can use it hot or cold. Place the pan in the oven to heat with the handle, remove it, let it bake, put the handle back on, take it out, bring to table, place on trivet, remove handle… wonderful little invention!

When we got Verizon FiOS back in Jersey, they made us give up the copper POTS lines, which I was NOT happy about…

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly…).

65F going to low 80e, partly cloudy.

Got the front brakes done, pulled out, different vibration, called up and was told to bring it right back. Tech who worked on the job and test drove afternsays, “well your back rotors will need replacement too.” I said, “do you think telling us that little tidbit of information before we left and had vibration would have been a better idea than letting us out without a hint that we might still have a vibration while braking?”

”uhh.. . .”

So we go back again next week for the rears.

Going up the woodlot this morning while it is cool, more firewood processing and excavating adventures.

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe productive blessed day!

Don, I read the only reason they avoided blackouts was because enough wind/solar was put online
to avoid what happened last time. ??

With all the folks moving to Texas, I would think your utility would be building more conventional generation.
Takes many years to get a plant built though.
Solar is fast...
and with all those oil well pumps sticking up, guess no one cares about looking at windmills.

we need new nuke plants running steam turbines. Tried and true.
Old tech now, too bad no one has come up with a politically acceptable way of storing the radioactive waste.
Seems to make folks froth at the mouth.

Two years I spent in power gen industry were fascinating. Got to see every type of power gen except for solar and wind.
My favorites were the hydros, walking out on Conowingo Dam was very cool, and the nuke plants.
It's just a different way of boiling water and we have dealt with this tech for a very long time.
Any powerplant using steam turbines usually needs to be near water.
The trick is not being too close to the water (Fukushima).

Only true reliability is to have some excess capacity to allow downtime due to planned outage or unplanned.
Modern grid management is pretty interesting science.

Frits, solve this for Texas please... ;)

My camera at lot reported up to 108°. I think it gets too much sun.
It also sent over 100 pics yesterday of nothing. Not sure what’s triggering it.

the problem with Fukushima is not that it was close to water. Nuclear submarines are kinda close to water.

the problem with Fukushima was that someone ignored the centuries-old statues that said “DO NOT BUILD BELOW THIS POINT”. Because what to those ancient dead guys know, anyway?

You can replace Texas with most any growth area. Here in VA, Data Centers and residential developments in my area have completely outpaced infrastructure. Yet the planning commissions approve both with nary a voice from the Power Companies until the very end of the process. And getting more power obviously is in the States interests, bypassing residential and local government concerns.

We have know for years that our infrastructure will be under stress to keep up, yet development outpaces the infrastructure. And a growing concern around here is that the infrastructure does not support the community it is placed in. Transmission lines feed other counties and states demands.

The same can be said about roads. By the time they are built, it is the same old backup, just three lanes wider.

Wind blowing trees can trigger. The 108° was morning, in afternoon when camera in shade it was 103°

Good morning, all. Hot days are finally over 63° now, and going up to 75 this afternoon.

Had to start the old D job yesterday now the September has arrived. Taught my first class, and really enjoyed it and so did the students! I guess they are in a good mood these days.

Timing worked out well, because I pretty well finished the basement renovation. The flooring looks great, and the kitchen is amazing. The in-laws have already started moving food and stuff into it.

Have a great day everyone!

As you can see, we still need baseboards, and the rest of the tongue and groove on the ceiling, but we are pretty much there.

Next job will be to install the gas woodstove!
