Oh yeah. Also got the new basement bathroom door installed. The pine looks so nice. I think we are going to leave it natural rather than stain it with golden oak stand like we did all the upstairs doors.

Don, I read the only reason they avoided blackouts was because enough wind/solar was put online
to avoid what happened last time. ??
Last time (3 winters ago) they were doing maintenance on some power plants and then it was cloudy and snowing so the solar was not putting out. This time was exactly like my quote. - The sun does not shine after sunset and it still in the 100s and the winds died down. Your statement about green energy helped avoid blackouts yesterday is partially correct - they did while the sun was shining and the wind was blowing. Yesterday after sunset showed the problem of depending on green energy - it is not always there when you need it.

Some projections for power growth in the US largely driven by the economy

When we got Verizon FiOS back in Jersey, they made us give up the copper POTS lines, which I was NOT happy about…

Did they make you give them up, or “suggest” it?
As I understand it, the PUC requires them to maintain (and share with other carriers) the existing copper network. They don’t have the same obligation with their fiber network. Verizon is a public utility, Comcast is not.
So it’s in Verizon’s best interest to get you to remove your copper.
I could be wrong, or it could have changed, buts that’s how I understand it.

Mandatory, no-way you to keep POTS. This was in 2012.

Remember when they used to joke about “solar-powered nightlights”?

I wonder what they are worried about, my jacking in FIOS to my Comcast cable line and providing
service to the local community?....
I just had Comcast cable put in three years ago.

so what does "give it up" mean?
why would I pay for both services?

does this mean installer this morning is going to remove the Comcast line?
that seems pretty invasive

Fios when back in NJ, removed copper, but not Comcast.
Here we have both run to neighbors, so no cable removals.
Copper was removed a long time ago. The copper patch box on the pole is just hanging open for the last 6 years to our whole neighborhood.

They won’t - or shouldn’t - touch the Comcast line.

but if you have a Verizon house phone on copper pairs, that will now go through fiber from the NID and not over a copper pair to the CO.

SO, if the power goes out for more than six hours (the general capacity of the FiOS internal backup battery), you no longer have an independently-powered telecommunications device.

The elephant in the room is the millions of new people suddenly in the country. Our infrastructure can’t support such a sudden change.

Like I said in my area it is industrial parks, data centers, and high end residential housing. I attribute the wealth growth to the high end residential developments. The developments, a social experiment with those of wealth seeking more "space". In of itself, "space" is a concern for power. A lot is lost getting from point a to point b. Hence the need for more infrastructure. Anyways, that's my area.

Good Morning
It’s 73 with 93 on tap for later on. Very slight chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon, otherwise dry.

Yesterday was almost completely inside in the AC. Made sitting in front of the computer doing sysiphean tasks for TSA compliance almost tolerable. This project should be complete in a week or two, and then I can go back into coast mode.
I did get some pork shoulders and a brisket loaded into the smoker around sunset.

I’ll be taking it to the local VFD this evening to feed them at their meeting. I try to do it at least once a year as a thank you. They were here about a month ago to put out the tree that got struck by lightning, that reminded me that it was time to feed them.

I haven’t been able to find my high lift jack for a couple of years, I hope that whoever didn’t return is getting good use out of it. So I’m off to get a new one today. Harbor freight is about $30 cheaper than TSC, I wonder how the quality compares. I’m sure they are both made from the same fine Chinesium.

Have a zoom meeting at 2pm that will consume at least an hour of my life, other than tending the smoker, which is easily done remotely-

I have some time to myself to accomplish whatever I feel like before heading out to the fire company.

I thought I smelled something nice last night, Popgadget making his world famous brisket again.
actually I barbecued a t bone in that heat, was on sale for 6.50 a pound over holiday weekend.
that was yummy, only ate half, will make good lunch sandwich sliced up

two hour install window this morning, guess I'd better be patient.

finally had enough states that this would not look stupid putting up in rv.
I hope by end of next year a lot more are filled in

Remember when they used to joke about “solar-powered nightlights”?
And that's the problem. No super large nighttime battery storage is possible at this time.
It almost seems comical to save the planet from climate change we have to be dependent on the climate - the sun always shinning and wind always blowing.

Good morning! Low of 60°, higher than the past couple of weeks for night lows......supposed to go up to 92°. Next week is supposed to become more "fall like".....

More prep work for the addition today. Not sure if I'll get as far as dismantling the porch roof. That's the game plan anyway.

Everyone have a great day!

Good morning everyone! Cold front came through the other night. Dropped temps 30 degrees and we got like 16 drops of rain... No help for the farmers.
I bought a Wagner powered roller and got the first coat of primer on the shop walls. It worked great, no back and forth to a tray to refill the roller. OSB sucked up the stuff pretty good, and the OSB ink bled right through. I'm OK with that. Gotta go back out and finish the edges. I'm hoping the "real" paint covers the bleed through, but it's a shop - so I'm not too worried. I used latex, for easy cleanup.
