Worked on the mower to clean it off and sharpen blades. One blade did not pass the test for run out and was scrapped.

Got out of Costco less than $700.

Wow, guess I can’t complain about $250 on a few things.
I did get another timber ridge reclining chair for the porch. And splurged on a rotisserie chicken for supper
After a mission run for lunch.
Did consider a $350 portable AC heat pump unit to use at dad’s. No AC there and I sleep upstairs where it gets hot.

Not much else happening here today.

When a kid, pre High School, my parents bought a lake lot that previous owner had already installed sonotube type concrete posts. Lot was about hour drive so somewhat inconvenient. My Dad designed the cottage based on using 4x8 plywood, 36x24 as I recall. During the week he (with our help) would precut all the structural members, load onto the pickup, and drive them up early Sat morning and we would assemble. No electricity and no generator.

My lot is 4 hrs away.
I’m thinking 12x 16 ft shed to start with. Think I can go 12x20 without permit.
Make floor in 3 sections, 4 x16 each, so 2 sheets plywood screwed to 3 4x4x16 runners, with overlap at middle edges. I think I can pull those off trailer and manhandle into place. If not, put BX on trailer and load them on edge, and use BX to move them.
Walls would be 12. 4x8 panels, a sheet of painted siding with 4 studs. 2 people can carry and place those, screw together on sides. One panel for man door. One gable end would be framed for 10x8 overhead door. One thing I have to consider is BX Rops is about 8ft high, I have almost hit my barn door already when it wasn’t quite all the way open. I wrote a warning on the key chain.
Not sure about roof yet

A lot of time and work, will take all summer.

First I need a flat area with gravel down. pretty flat where this pic is taken from.

Have you given thought to a 20' Sea Can for the lot? Probably more money than what you could build your own shed for but more secure.

Yes I have. If you followed Woodchuckdad’s build down that way, he got a really nice one delivered to him from Baltimore. Brand new.

nice sharpening equipment for sure.
knives, blades, scissors, you could set up a little sign.
it's the chain saw blades folks want sharpened for less than the job is honestly worth today.
It's been my experience that any sharpener on an automatic setting grinds off a lot more metal that I would
manually.

my blades have a slight bit more "patina"...
but fully support if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well.
I admit to being edge -centric and not forcing the oem angle of cut on a used blade.

1/16 flat edge?
shouldn't have to be so thick if the metal is harder, which may be the point here.
this looks a lot less than 1/16th
anyone with good eyes want to guess what these hardened blade edges are measured at?
I could run my finger over the edge easily without worry of being cut.

but rev that up and getting it up to full rpm and I want to go mow a big fat pine cone.

so I'll wait a month or so until current blades have some wear on them

I do follow his build. And I saw that. Just trying to assist with ideas.

A good idea I might add. I haven’t priced one yet.
One of the ideas of a shed with man door, is a cot could be placed in the back if I wanted to stay the night. Put in a solar battery light.

Finished greasing the mower. The two drive shafts, one from the motor to trans and one from trans to deck are not accessible from above. I drive it up on ramps to be able to crawl under and reach grease points.
The best sharpening tool is a belt sander as used by knife makers bacuse of its ability to grind without a lot of heat. A hand file is good too but takes forever. I don't have one but I would not be surprised if Popgadget has one. He seems to have all good things.

Got trailer switched on the truck, in AM I’ll load the ZT and head south to see how bad the grass got in 3 weeks. Didn’t really want to go on a Friday as returning traffic will be heavier.

We purchased one of those portable heat pumps about 5 years ago. Works great!

I do not have one of those belt sanders, although I’ve often thought about gettin one. I usually use an angle grinder an flap wheel for mower blades. If I’m particularly fussy, I’ll take the over to my neighbor’s and use his 3hp commercial mower blade sharpener, but I’m not usually that fussy unless the blades are like clubs.
I use stones for sharpening other tools like chisels and knives, and have a Makita whetstone with an excellent guide for things like planer knives.

My priorities are shifting to have do something to shore up the structure. Will have to gather up screw jack and supports and rig it up.
Maybe get Norm Abrams out to do a series on it?

Good Morning.
33 degrees out there this morning, visible patches of frost on the ground. High of 60 forecast under clear skies. Light winds, might be good for flying RC this afternoon or evening.

Yesterday started with a good breakfast with the professor. As a retired lawyer and constitutional history professor, all the news and political shenanigans kept him pretty animated.

When I got home there was a motorhome in front of my shop, so we got right to work. I think that I managed to check off everything on Drew’s list. Fortunately, he brought a stamped steel socket for the water heater element, as my socket would not get around the Venturi tube for the gas burner. His socket had a hole through it to turn it with a bar, but it didn’t quite clear the edge of the RV, and looked like a knuckle buster. So I welded a plate to the end of it and welded a nut to that plate to turn it with a socket and breaker bar. The Faucet was easy, except the old one had 1/2” MPT connections and the new one was 3/8 compression. A trip to the hardware store got us the required fittings. I think that Drew liked the Prius V.
Because I’m not as flexible as I once was, I removed the cabinet doors and sliding drawers for access, that combined with putting it back together took longer than the plumbing.

Also need to get to the Sellersville Theater to pick up two more tickets for the Asleep at the Wheel show in August. As a member of the theater, I get to buy tickets for the front rows before they go on sale to the general public.
Thank you for helping our buddy Drew out!

I have been an ASW fan for a looong time. Saw them live in '75, along with Alvin Baker and the Pleasant Mountain Valley Boys.

Yup.

this looks a lot less than 1/16th

The Marbains that came on the Cub and the extra set I purchased for it were certainly less than 1/16th.

anyone with good eyes want to guess what these hardened blade edges are measured at?

I wouldn't say that I have good eyes so that leaves me out ... ;)

I could run my finger over the edge easily without worry of being cut.

Probably so ... but I'm not sure I would try that after they have been ran for a bit.

but rev that up and getting it up to full rpm and I want to go mow a big fat pine cone.
